Title: Who is the most intelligent

1
Who is the most intelligent?
2
Shock!! - latest research shows that Wayne
Rooney is as intelligent as Albert Einstein!!!
Could Rooney be a top scientist?
Could Einstein play professional football?
3
Who is the most intelligent?
High physical intelligence
Low physical intelligence
4
Who is the most intelligent?
High mathematical intelligence
Low mathematical intelligence
5
This is called the theory of Multiple
Intelligences
  • Theres more to intelligence than meets the eye.
The latest research on the brain means that we
are beginning to realise that intelligence is not
just something you have or dont have, but is
actually a broad range of different types,
    skills, abilities and talents.

6
Humans have eight areas in which they show
differing degrees of intelligence
  • Interpersonal intelligence
  • Intrapersonal intelligence
  • Linguistic (Verbal) intelligence
  • Mathematical intelligence
  • Visual and spatial intelligence
  • Kinaesthetic (Physical) intelligence
  • Musical intelligence
  • Naturalistic intelligence

7
The following slides will tell you a little about
each of the intelligences. They will suggest
different revision methods that will suit
different intelligences. However to learn well
you should try a mixture of techniques.
  • There are some activities to do along the way. If
you find the activities given in the section on a
particular intelligence easy or enjoyable you are
likely to be strong in that intelligence.
  • You should try the revision methods suggested in
    that section at home.

8
Interpersonal intelligence
  • The ability to understand and work with others.
  • People with high interpersonal intelligence can
  • Identify the emotions of others
  • See things from a different point of view
  • Have good social relationships
  • Work in small groups and teams
  • Listen to, acknowledge and respond to the views
    of others
  • Influence others.

9
Interpersonal
  • Revise with a partner and test each other
  • Write letters to and from characters
  • Learn something and teach it to somebody else.

10
Ant and Dec
  • Ant and Dec have high interpersonal
    intelligences. They should revise by
  • Teaching each other.
  • Testing each other.
  • Motivating each other.
  • Helping each other to learn.

11
Intrapersonal intelligence different to
interpersonal
  • This is the ability to understand yourself and
judge your feelings and emotions. These people
usually have a strong sense of values and are
    highly motivated.

12
Lisa Simpson
  • Lisa is a confident person who enjoys her own
    company. She should revise by
  • Setting learning goals for herself.
  • Assuming a role and being interviewed in that
    role.
  • Having a quiet place for learning.
  • Thinking up five big questions for each topic.

13
Intra personal
  • Quiet place for revision
  • Set your own goals and write them down
  • think up five BIG questions for each topic
  • Contents page

14
Linguistic intelligence
  • These people have a sensitivity to the meaning,
    sounds and rhythm of words.
  • They usually learn through listening, writing,
    reading and discussion.
  • They imitate or mimic sounds and people.
  • They communicate well.
  • They take information in by listening.

16
Which one is the odd one out?
  • GS, GA, WA, WG, C, GD, WD

17
  • Two lookalike boys were at a party and a
stranger said You must be twins. The boys
laughed and said, We have the same parents and
were born on the same day in the same year, but
we are not twins. How come?

18
  • What belongs to you but others use it more than
    you do?

19
  • Some pieces of coal, a carrot, and an old hat
are lying in the middle of a lawn. Nobody put
them on the grass and they did not fall out of a
    plane.
  • How did they get there?

20
  • A man was shot to death in his car. There
were no powder marks on his clothes showing that
the killer must have been outside the car. All
the windows were closed and the doors were
locked. There were only bullet holes in his body.
  • How was he murdered?

21
Linguistic
  • Filling in the gap exercises see your text
    books or revision books
  • Mnemonics, rhymes word patterns
  • Read, cover, test, check, test again
  • Short presentations
  • Contents page

22
J.K. Rowling
  • J.K. has a high verbal intelligence. She
    should revise by
  • Teaching other people in her own words.
  • Identifying key words and pin them up around her
    learning environment.
  • Turning her notes into adverts rhymes and
    slogans.

23
Mathematical, logical intelligence
  • People with high skills in this intelligence are
problem solvers. They like sequence, order and
    patterns.

24
Dingbats
  • OHOLENE TIME TIME
  • KNEE EZ
  • LIGHT iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

25
Logical mathematical
  • Making powerpoints
  • Index cards
  • Converting text into flow charts
  • Contents page

26
Carol Vorderman
  • Carol has a high mathematical intelligence.
    She should revise by
  • Converting notes to flow charts.
  • Making powerpoints of her notes.
  • Using index cards.
  • Looking for sequences and patterns.

27
Visual and spatial intelligence
  • People with high visual and spatial intelligence
are often good at learning through observing or
seeing. They can imagine scenes easily, interpret
maps and charts. They are good at design and at
manoevering themselves through space (eg copying
    aerobics moves).

28
  • You will now be shown some objects.
  • Look at them
  • Do not discuss them
  • Do not say anything
  • Do not write anything down.

29

30
Test your visual and spatial intelligence.
  • Which object was in the bottom left hand corner?
  • Which object was above the teddy?
  • Which object was below the car?
  • What was to the right of the fly?
  • What colour bow did the teddy have on?
  • How many objects were mostly yellow?
  • How many objects were there?

31
Visual - spatial
  • Posters
  • Visualising piece of text or written description
  • Sorting, matching cutting up and rearranging
  • Revision ties etc

32
Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen
  • Laurence is a top designer because of his high
visual intelligence. He should revise by
  • Making revision posters.
  • Sorting, matching, cutting up and rearranging his
    notes.
  • Making revision ties, hats and shirts.

33
Kinaesthetic intelligence
  • Those with good kinaesthetic intelligence can use
the body in skilled ways. They work with objects
and equipment well and learn by doing and moving.
  • Even walking around the room when revising will
    help them learn.
  • If you have high kinaesthetic intelligence you
can probably copy brain gym exercises well.

34
Bodily - physical
  • Link text to actions
  • Converting text into a game
  • Stepping stones
  • Convert text into a game e.g. snakes and ladders,
    salt and pepper shakers
  • Revise while moving
  • Get a stress ball or something to doodle with

35
David Beckham
  • David has a high physical intelligence. He
    should revise by
  • Putting his notes onto cards. Shuffle them and
sort them into the right order.
  • Throwing the cards on the floor and walk around
    them.
  • Acting out his learning.

36
Musical intelligence
  • Those with high musical intelligence often have
tones, rhythms and musical patterns in their
consciousness. They have a sense of rhythm, enjoy
experimenting with sounds and show sensitivity to
    mood changes in sounds.

37
Learning the order of the planets
  • Mercury my
  • Venus very
  • Earth easy
  • Mars method
  • Jupiter just
  • Saturn speeds
  • Uranus up
  • Neptune naming
  • Pluto planets

38
Can you make up your own mnemonic for one of the
following.
  • The vertebrate groups
  • Mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and
    birds.
  • You can change the order of the words in the list
above but not the list below.
  • The waves in the electromagnetic spectrum in
    order of their wavlengths
  • radio waves, microwaves, infra-red, visible
    light, ultra-violet, X-rays, gamma radiation.

39
Musical
  • Converting text into raps, rhymes
  • Using mood music when learning
  • Mnemonics e.g. mrs gren

40
Robbie Williams
  • Robbie has a high musical intelligence. To
    revise he should
  • Turning his notes into rhymes, raps, jingles and
    poems.
  • Singing his notes out loud.
  • Using appropriate music to back up what he is
    learning.

41
Naturalistic intelligence
  • People with high naturalistic intelligence are at
home in natural environments. They show awareness
of the environment and how it changes. They are
often comfortable in different types of
    environment.
  • Notice some people on the holiday swap programme
cannot cope in different environments. Maybe
their naturalistic intelligence is lower than
    others.

42
Steve Irwin
  • Steve was aware of the environment so he has a
    high naturalistic intelligence. Similar people
    should revise by
  • Taking his learning for a walk, round the park or
    into the garden.
  • Learning with his pet.
  • Learning different topics in different
    environments.
  • Turning his learning into animals. What animal
    would Hitler be and why?

43
Different methods of revision suit different
intelligences
  • Highlighting is good strategy to use for revision
    for all the intelligences.

44
Find your own strengths
  • Visit www.acceleratedlearning .com to find out
more about multiple intelligences and take the
    free learning style profile.
  • Knowing your strengths may help you with
    revision.
  • However the key to good learning is to use
    different ways to revise.
  • Improving your weaknesses will help you improve.
