Bibliographic options for multi-format serials in
catalogusmai
- Option 1. CONSER Single Record Approach
- Option 2. CONSER Separate Record Approach
- Option 3. Mixed Single and Separate Record
Approaches (status quo) - Option 4. All-Format Record Approach (proposed

3To USMAI Electronic Resources in the Catalog
(ERIC) Task Force From DLM Cataloging Policy
Committee (CPC) Date May 11, 2004 Re SFX in the
Catalog
CPC offers the following two options to help
users find all serial holdings in a consolidated
display Option 1. A display solution, where
SFX/Aleph programming would return a consolidated
display of holdings across formats and
bibliographic records Option 2. A single
bibliographic record for all formats, where
catalogers would manually consolidate holdings
and bibliographic data for all formats onto one
record
4ERIC II Activities
- URL Cleanup
- Online access will be maintained in the SFX
Knowledge Base and not the catalogusmai
bibliographic database, whenever possible. - Minimizes duplication of effort
- Keeps access more up-to-date
- All online resources that are represented in
catalogusmai will be accessed via the FindIt menu - Provides consistent access method for users
- Prevents users from being offered access when
they dont have it - Routes off-site users through campus
authentication
5URL cleanup activities (accomplished) 1. Keep
SFX Knowledge Base up to date 2. Display on the
Find It menu of the 1st 856 field from the
bibliographic record if it contains these
strings purl.access.gpo.gov www.netLibra
ry.com 3. Display multiple 856 fields from the

(referred to in ERIC2 as the SFX Loader). - 6. Delete from those bibliographic records
identified and tagged by the SFX Loader any URLs
intended to link to the resource itself or a
version of the resource. - Display all remaining URLs in bibliographic
records in the Find It menu. - Suppress remaining URLs from Web OPAC full and
brief displays.
