  • This is a lesson Plan for my high school students
    grades 9-12.

Psychoactive Drugs
  • Psychoactive Drugs are also known as
    psychedelic drugs, and are drugs that change
    the way a person perceives the world. They are
    chemical compounds that have a psychological
    effect that alters mood or thought process.

LSD/Acid
  • It is a white, odorless powder in forms of
    liquid, tablets, capsules, gelatin, or blotting
  • It can be swallowed, sniffed, injected, or smoked
  • Effects
  • Distorted sense of time, space, and senses
  • Rapid heart rate and hallucination
  • Chills, flushing, and paranoia
  • Poor coordination
  • Acute panic
  • Nausea and loss of appetite
  • Recurring of intense pain
  • Impaired memory

Alcohol
  • One of worlds most mind-altering drug
  • Most used illegal drug
  • Effects
  • Dose dependency
  • Increased appetite
  • Euphoria
  • Liver damage
  • Korsakoffs syndrome
  • Unconsciousness
  • Blood Alcohol Poisoning

Marijuana
  • Most popular mood-altering drug
  • Usually smoked or eaten
  • Effects
  • Coughing, asthma, upper respiratory problems
  • Difficulty with short term memory
  • Racing heart, agitation, feeling tense
  • Mild to severe anxiety and paranoia
  • Panic attacks in sensitive users or with very
    high doses
  • Headaches, dizziness, and confusion
  • Possible psychological dependence
  • Clumsiness, loss of coordination at high doses
  • Can precipitate or exacerbate latent or existing
    mental disorders

Cocaine
  • Cocaine is typically a whitish powder with a
    bitter, numbing taste. It is most often snorted,
    though it can also be injected and used orally
  • Effects
  • Increased heart rate, blood pressure, and body
    temperature, and sweating
  • Decreased sleep and appetite
  • Paranoia
  • Suicidal instincts
  • Loss of sex drive
  • Hostility and hallucination
  • Insomnia or excessive sleep
  • Depression
  • Psychological dependency
  • Damage cartilage in nose
  • Possible needle infections

Anabolic Steroids
  • Anabolic steroids are taken orally or injected,
    typically in cycles of weeks or months
  • Effects
  • Liver cancer
  • Hypertension and risk of stroke
  • Edema
  • Hair loss
  • Suppressed immune system
  • Severe acne
  • Injuries take longer to heal
  • Sterility
  • Death
  • Total Personality change
  • Addiction
  • Inability to accept failure
  • Wide mood swings and depression

MDMA/Ecstasy
  • It most frequently comes in tablet form,
    although it is occasionally sold in capsules or
    as powder. It is most frequently used orally and
    rarely snorted.
  • The effects are felt within 20-90 min., lasts for
    about 2-3 hours, then the feeling comes down for
    about 1-2 hours, and then the after effects last
    for about 3-24 hours.
  • Effects
  • Mild to extreme jaw clenching and tongue and
    cheek biting
  • Headache, nausea, loss of balance, dizziness
  • Short-term memory loss
  • Hangover the next day that may last a day to
    weeks
  • Mild depression and fatigue for about a week
  • Possible psychological crisis resulting in
    hospitalization
