Requirements for Eagle Scout
  • Be ACTIVE in your troop, team, crew, or ship for
    a period of at least 6 months after you have
    achieved the rank of Life Scout
  • Demonstrate Scout Spirit by living the Oath Law

  • Life scout must use the Eagle Scout Leadership
    Service project workbook, No. 18-927B, in meeting
    the requirement.
  • Project Work book must be filled out completely.
  • Workbook can be obtained at Old Colony Council
    Service Center

When can I start my Eagle Project?
  • The project is a requirement just as the
    leadership position and Life Rank Tenure, you
    may start the project after obtaining Life Rank
  • No other limitations can be placed on starting
    the Eagle Project by the Troop or Unit like
    waiting until all merit badges are earned.

The Project Requirement
  • While a Life Scout PLAN, DEVELOP, and GIVE
    LEADERSHIP to others in a service project helpful
    to any religious institution, any school, or your
    community.

How Big?
  • No Specific size requirement.
  • Should be a challenge to the Scout.
  • No specific time requirement But
  • must demonstrate Leadership of Others.

Considerations
  • Not Routine Labor.
  • Not to benefit BSA.
  • Not for a Business or Commercial enterprise.
  • Not a Fundraiser.
  • Note A fund-raiser CAN be used to obtain
    materials and supplies to perform the project.
  • ANY excess funds after project completion are
    to be given to the Benefiting Organization.

Approvals
  • If your project is taken place for other then the
    owner of the property, you will need a Letter
    giving you permission to do so. For your
    protection.
  • If your project involves area around water or
    wetlands, you will need a Determination from
    the local Conservation Commission that the work
    can occur or a Permit to do the work (its the
    law) prior to signatures.
  • Scouts can not pull Building Permits. They do
    not have the License nor the Insurance required
    by Law.

  • Maintain a daily diary or log of activity and
    progress throughout the project. You will need
    this information to complete the project workbook.

  • Fill in all information completely.
  • Type or print legibly.
  • Indicate your full legal name. (Indicate full
    middle name, not initial Do not use nicknames.

  • List date of Life Board of Review.
  • Requirement 2 References
  • Give complete name and title if one exists.
  • Give complete address.
  • Give phone number including area code.
  • No nicknames.
  • Request character reference documents from the
    council office, or http//www.oldcolonycouncil.com
    /
  • provide the reference request to the individuals
    listed in requirement 2, with a stamped envelope
    addressed to your scoutmaster other troop adult.
    Mark the envelope with your name and the who is
    giving the reference on the back of the envelope.

  • Must Use Councils Request Form. Can be found at

  • Directions for the form are located on the back
  • Do not wait until Project is completed
  • Scout is responsible to ensure letters
  • accompany Eagle Application

    out badges that were not earned.

  • Badges that applied toward Star and Life must be

  • Examine all paper work for accuracy.
  • Final check of all dates on application.
  • Sign application in appropriate spots.

Application Appeal
  • My Scout Master or Committee will not sign my
    Eagle Application what should I do?
  • There are only two instances for an Appeal, the
    scout did not pass is Eagle Board of Review and
    the Scout Master / Committee not signing the
    Application
  • Scout, family member or leader should in writing
    file for an appeal to Council Office.

The Eagle Board of Review
  • Before the Board happens
  • Submit your Eagle Scout Application and project
    workbook, to the council office.
  • Include your 5 reference letters in unopened
    envelopes.
  • The application data is verified against council
    records and then made available to the District
    Advancement Committee member
  • Board of Review date set.

Board of Review
  • Your Scoutmaster will be contacted by one of the
    District Advancement people to schedule the BOR.
  • Relatives, Scoutmaster, or Assistants cannot be
    members of the BOR SM can observe the BOR.
  • Any other adult can be a member of the BOR -
    Normally 3-6 people.
  • Scout must present himself at the BOR in Complete
    scout uniform.

  • Eagle Board Of Review
  • The review members have to be unanimous to
    recommend the Eagle Candidate to National for
    approval.
  • Candidate is not an Eagle scout until National
    approves the application.
  • Board Of Review Paperwork
  • The board will fill out and sign Advancement
    report No. 34403A

  • Post Board of Review Paperwork (cont.)
  • Board Chairperson and District Eagle board
    representative will review and sign the Eagle
    Application.
  • Processing
  • Advancement Report and Eagle Application will be
    submitted to the council office along with the
    workbook.

  • Warning
  • Scout should not plan his Eagle ceremony until
    final approval is received from the National
    Office. This normally takes about three weeks.
  • Scoutmaster and Scout are notified by postcard
    from the Council Service Center when Eagle
    credentials are ready for pickup.

  • However BE CAREFUL when relying on the
    information at these sites. There is
    misinformation as well.
