4. Listening Leaders
  • 4.1
  • Rules around being a listening leader
  • Leader/Clubber ratio of 14
  • Handbook time is critical, but leaders are
    expected to stay
  • with their kids during handbook time. Most
    leaders will help
  • with handbook time for a Sparks and a TT
    group.
  • Primary job is to listen to clubbers pass
    sections in their
  • book, and properly record achievements
  • Listening Leaders need to build lasting
    relationships with the
  • clubbers they are ministering to.
  • Send postcards on a monthly basis to encourage
    clubber
  • Remind clubbers that you care about them, you
    are
  • proud of the work they have accomplished (if
    true), and
  • that you are praying for them.
  • Listening Leaders need to plan two outings per
    year with
  • their group. (PLEASE NOTEUNDER NO
    CIRCUMSTANCE IS
  • AN OUTING TO OCCUR WITHOUT TWO OR MORE
  • LEADERS in attendance.
  • Theme style parties at the church work great.

4. Listening Leaders
  • 4.2
  • Standards for passing handbook sections
  • Clubber must complete all verses during one
    session to
  • receive credit. They may not quote one verse,
    go study, and
  • quote another verse.
  • Clubbers must pass an entire section with only
    two helps or
  • less. A help is defined as 3 words or less,
    or any other hint.
  • It is imperative that we have consistency
    among leaders in
  • this respect. When we allow clubbers to ease
    through a
  • verse, we cheat them. Expect excellence from
    them, and you
  • will get it. They in return will have a much
    greater chance of
  • remembering the verse later in life.
  • Make sure clubbers understand the verse they are
    quoting.
  • Briefly go over what difficult words in
    passage mean.
  • Sections must not be signed by a parent, family
    member, or
  • friend. Only AWANA leaders (non-related may
    sign off
  • verses)
  • Listening leaders must record completed sections
    on the
  • clubbers progress sheet in a prompt manner.
    This is very
  • important. The clubber progress form is what
    is used to
  • determine awards. Also, proper and consistent
    recording of
  • attendance, uniform, and dues are required.
  • Listening leaders will fill out award request
    envelopes when
  • clubbers have earned an award, unless told
    differently by
  • Director.

5. Discipline
  • 5.1
  • Group Discipline
  • Five Count
  • Used when a group is getting out of control
  • Leader begins to slowly count to five
  • Clubbers are to quiet down and pay attention
    before
  • the leader reaches the number 5. (To be
    effective
  • the leader must be willing to remove
    privileges)
  • Three Count
  • Used any time an individual is misbehaving
  • One is a warning, two is a talk with the
    Director, and
  • three is being sent to the Commanders office.
  • PLEASE NOTE THAT PHYSICAL DISCIPLINE IN AWANA
  • IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN, REGARDLESS OF THE
  • CIRCUMSTANCES. NEVER ENGAGE IN SUCH ACTIVITY.
