What is a CD?
  • CD- CD stands for compact disc. A compact disc is
a plastic disk approximately 12cm(4 in.) in
diameter, on which information such as music or
computer data is digitally encoded in a format
    readable by laser beam.

Different Types of CDs
  • CD-ROM- Stands for read-only memory. It is a type
of optical disc that uses laser technology to
store data, instructions, and information that

  • For Example, manufacturers sell CD-ROMs with
prerecorded audio, video and software, such as
    Dictionaries.

What is a DVD?
  • DVD- DVD stands for digital video disc or digital

only memory. It is a high capacity optical disc
on which users can read but not write or erase

Comparing CDs and DVDs
  • Today CDs are usually used to store audio for
    music purposes.
  • They are also often used for computer software.
  • DVDs are mostly used to record movies. Almost all
movies are stored to DVDs as VHS is becoming a
    thing of the past.
  • Someday DVDs will replace CDs because they have a
    higher storage capacity.
