  • CCM formed in February 2002
  • Chairman of the CCM Minister of Public Health

  • The CCMs members represent all the sectors in
    the country
  • Regular meetings on a quarterly basis

  • The CCM decided not to submit any proposal in the
    1st round in March (Short Notice)
  • The AIDS, TB and Malaria proposals were all
    submitted in September 2002 (2nd round)
  • Only the malaria proposal was approved in January
    2003
  • Total grant of the malaria proposal
  • USD 11,878,206 over 5 years, against 5 main
    objectives

  • The AIDS TB proposals were again submitted in
    May 2003 and were rejected
  • The AIDS proposal was again appealed in December
    2003 and was approved in March 2004.

  • UDS 14,764,062 million
  • No disbursements so far

  • The objectives in both proposals (AIDS and
    Malaria) were matching with the national
    strategic plans of both programmes.
  • The proposals submitted to the GF aimed at
    strengthening the already ongoing activities
    supported by the government and other donors.

Objectives of the malaria proposal
  • 1- To establish a building for the HQ of the NMCP
    at the capital Sanaa and a building for the HQ
    of the regional office of Tihama to be
    functioning by the year 2005.

  • 2- Building, developing and strengthening the
    national capacity
  • by having 2 national entomologists by the
    years 2004 and 2005
  • by having 30 nationals trained on
    Epidemiology in Action by the end of 2005

  • by having 42 national laboratory technicians
    and 42 national clinicians (medical doctors)
    trained on malaria quality control, planning,
    monitoring, evaluation and training (ToTs) by the
    end of 2005

  • 3- To strengthen the malaria information system
    to be 100 functioning in all the governorates by
    the end of 2005.
  • 4- To distribute the ITNs among 60 of the
    pregnant women and children under five over the
    period of the proposal.

  • 5- To interrupt malaria transmission in Socotra
    island during 2002/2003 with the ultimate goal of
    malaria eradication in the island by the end of
    2005, and to ensure the sustainability of the
    integrated vector control operations in Tihama
    area which is the highest malaria endemic area in
    the country.

    delays in implementation due to obstacles beyond
    the PR control.
  • The reasons behind these delays were discussed
    with the GF secretariat.
