Humans sense and perceive
What is the difference?

We sense our environment in many ways.
There are five we are most familiar with

Sight

Hearing

Smell

Taste

Touch . heat, cold and pain

While sensations are registered by our senses
They pass through our nervous system into our
brain
Perception then takes place within the brain

Perception is the ability of our brain to take
these sensations, analyze and use them in some
meaningful way.

It is estimated that 85 of the information of
our environment is received through our sense of
sight
Because of this it is important we understand the
perceptual biases of the eye / brain relationship.
How images make us perceive the world.

images and behaviours of our culture
