BRIC in SAFIR

• BRIC is one of the early adaptors of the Safir
  technology
• BRIC implements this technology through a pilot
  project
• The domain of application is UrbIS, Geographical
  Information System
• It is focused on the professional users defined
  in SAFIR

Context opportunity to join SAFIR

• Automate the GIS data collecting delivering
  process
• Continuous update
• Paper and pencil process by on-the-field
  operators
• Back-office manual retranscription into database
• Slow collection process with potentially lack of
  accuracy
• Buildings  220.000 units, around 1000/year are
  modified
• Roadways 1.700 km of roadways, 56 km/year are
  modified
• Bilingual region French and Dutch are the
  official language

Solution

• Implementation of two on the field update voice
  prototypes
• BRIC GIS department
• Update of Brussels GIS (UrbIS) database
• Updated data unoccupied building, construction
  area, street number, pathway network data - used
  for bicycle/public-transport route calculation
• Brussels Regional Ministry
• Update of building occupancy (restaurant, hotel,
  grocer, public service...)?
• Statistics on commercial establishment
  distribution in Brussels in order to prevent
  commercial reduction and to setup a coherent
  ground assignment strategy.
