Introduction
  • Alabama is a beautiful state and there are many
    wonderful places to visit. Explore the regions
    of the state to locate places you would like to
    visit.

Purpose
  • In this webquest, students will learn about
    Alabama, the state in which they live, by using
    Internet sites to collect facts and pictures
    about Alabama.
  • The finished products will include a worksheet to
    aid in Internet research and a brochure created
    with a word processor or desktop publishing
    software.

Task
  • Students will work in pairs to locate information
    about places to visit in Alabama.
  • Complete the worksheet with information from the
    assigned web sites.
  • Create a travel brochure with a word processor or
    desktop publishing software.
  • Use the brochure rubric as a guide for
    requirements.

  • State Parks
  • NOTE There are hints on the worksheet to help
    guide you in the right directions.
  • TIP Try to avoid advertisements and stay on the
    main web sites to save time. You can always go
    back to these sites to follow other links, if
    time allows.
  • You will have one class period to locate
    information in the computer lab.

ProcessStep 2 Brochure
  • Decide which software to use to create the
    brochure word processor or desktop publisher
    (you may use a template)
  • Plan on using a tri-fold design with six pages
  • Page 1 should be an introduction/title page with
    a picture (be sure to give credit to the picture
    source)
  • Page 2 should list the four regions and a fact
    about each region
  • Page 3 should have information about the state
    capital
  • Page 4 should have a place to visit White House
    of the Confederacy, USS Alabama, Helen Kellers
    birthplace, or another place discovered while on
    the webquest
  • Page 5 should discuss state parks and facts
  • Page 6 should list student names, grade, date,
    school, and list of web sites used (these are
    called citations your teacher will discuss
    proper citation styles)
  • You may use clipart from the software if it is
    appropriate, there is room to accommodate the
    image and it enhances the brochure
  • Choose attractive, easy-to-read fonts and sizes
  • You will have two class periods to create the
    brochure in computer lab
  • Print the final copy of the brochure with
    permission from the teacher

Evaluation
  • The Brochure Rubric will be used as a guide to
    grade student projects.
  • Internet worksheets will be graded on a standard
    scale.

Conclusion
  • Students will learn what a great state that
    Alabama is and maybe desire to visit a new place
    in the state with their families
  • Students will learn valuable Internet research
    navigation skills
  • Students must be cooperative to work with a
    partner and share responsibilities
  • Brochures will be on display for all students and
    parents who visit the classroom
