    sports performers have been portrayed by the

Sponsorship in Sport
  • The support for a sport, sports event, sports
    organisation or competitor by an outside body or
    person for the mutual benefit of both parties
  • Means the donation of money so that the sponsor
    can be linked to the sport, person, team or
    organisation.

Advantages for sport/player
  • Can train and compete without financial burden.
  • Increases income.
  • Creates extra promotion/advertising.
  • Money to improve facilities and coaching for
    sports future.

Disadvantages for sport/player
  • Sponsorship can be withdrawn if performance is
    bad.
  • Less well known players and sports find it hard
    to gain sponsorship.
  • Sponsors may want large amount of control.
  • Governing bodies become reliant on money.

  • An amateur sportsperson takes part in the sport
    for enjoyment and does not get paid.
  • A professional sports person gets paid, it is
    their job!
  • Semi-professional sports people are paid for
    playing sport but also have another job as the
    income alone is not enough.
  • Think of an example for each of the above.
