Healthy lifestyles families too
  • A theme that runs through our SHINE academy is
healthy eating. We have held 4 healthy eating
events and one carnival food celebration. Each
one involves children making presentations to
    their parents.

Organisation The Millfields SHINE Academy
  • End of Year Results For SHINE Cohort 5 (2005
    2006)
  • 101 registered in September 2005
  • Overall attendance 2005-2006 is 68 (within
    target range of 65 - 70)
  • 37 pupils continued from previous years with
SHINE of these 12 were Year 6 pupils Child
    selection
  • 23 of the children registered have free school
    meals
  • 13 have special educational needs
  • 29 children have English as an additional
    language.

12
  • Total sessions run - 30 Saturdays attendance
  • Highest - 100 for all 3 terms achieved by 7
    students
  • 80 100 achieved by 44 students

  • Average target of 65 and above achieved by 53
students Note some children request to attend
for 1 or 2 terms only
  • Attendance is lower in the summer term due to
other school outings, sport and parents taking
the children out of school for extended family
    holidays.
  • There is a fall-out rate but places are quickly
taken by other pupils. SHINE caries 30 mobility
    turnover.
  • Impact of 50 of pupils from other schools makes
attendance very difficult to follow up in 2
schools where there has been no link teacher.
Transport issues also prevented one school group
from attending regularly from Jan 06.

Rationale
  • This is based only on Year 6 Cohort at Millfields
    Community School
  • This compares actual SATs results achieved
against target levels predicted by CAT testing
    (Cognitive Abilities Tests).
  • This provides very clear evidence for the impact
attendance at SHINE makes on individual
performance although it must be noted that some
of the school cohort does contain a few
children who had previously attended SHINE for
two years but then chose not to in Year 6.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to assess
    pupils from other schools.
