3History behind the Mission House
In 2003 young people from churches in the UK
asked CWM Europe to provide opportunities for
young people to do mission.
The Mission House began in 2005 and is in its
fifth year.
4What is the Mission House?
- An international group of young people drawn
mainly from Europe.
- The team live and work as a community.
- Mission House participants work as full-time
volunteers in projects throughout the city.
- The group meet weekly to share reflections and
faith.

6The Work
- The Mission House team work in a number of
social projects. - Each member works up to 36 hours per week.
- The 36 hours are made up of working in up 5
social projects and a project that the Mission
House team share together. - Some of the projects are....

Offering support, advice and guidance.
A service each Sunday for addicts and homeless
people.
Help is given to get people out of difficult
situations e.g. Providing a safe home, drugs
advice etc.
Individual visits to support people in their
individual situations

This is a shelter for women only
Up to 15 women live in the house
Children are welcome but limited to boys up 12
years old
Women can stay up to two months as they sort
their situations out

- De Regenboog Groep (The Rainbow Group) offers
homeless people, especially addicts low-threshold
drop-in rooms and long term help. - De Regenboog has an open door policy which
provides a welcome, support and basic
necessities. - De Regenboog has 8 Inloophuizen (drop in centres)
throughout Amsterdam.

- Assisting migrant churches in the Bijlmer
district - Helping people in their individual situations to
better understand their new surroundings and
culture - Services are offered to help people e.g.
Language courses, doctors, councillors, computer
courses, internet cafe etc

- An outpatients facility provides support through
a Buddy system. - Patients do not have to stay in the hospice, but
can continue their normal daily lives.
- A hospice for the terminally ill, offering
medical, emotional, spiritual and practical
support. - 10 patients at any one time who spend the last 2
or 3 months of their lives in the hospice.

A crisis shelter for young people who can no
longer live in their own home
Clients receive help and advice while continuing
to attend college or work every day
Clients can stay from 4 weeks to 3 months
14Blikveld
- Providing young people of Amsterdam with a
chance to have information on Christian views and
events. - Made for youth by youth to give the Christian
Youth of Amsterdam a face. - Aimed at young people between 10-17, Blikveld is
a joint project of the Mission House, Oudezijds
100, PKA and Church newspaper Horizon. - Four elements to Blikveld page in Horizon,
e-zine, website and events.

The Mission House Team is made up of 8 people
from all over Europe. Previous nationalities in
the Mission House have been Hungarian, Dutch,
Swedish, German, British, French and Belgian.
