Course Offering 6 Total Credit Units
  • 10th Grade A/B days every other day, 86 minutes a
    day for 90 days total of 129 hours
  • 11th Grade A/B days every other day, 172 minutes
    a day for 90 days total of 258 hours
  • 12th Grade A/B days every day for 86 minutes
    A-day and 172 minutes B-day total of 387 hours
  • Students complete the class with approximately
    774 hours of training
  • Students train under A.W.S. Sense Program and
    NCCER Program

Certification
  • Students can become certified under A.W.S. in
  • S.M.A.W., D1.5 1.1 99
  • G.M.A.W. D1.1 75
  • G.T.A.W. B2.1 10
  • F.C.A.W. D1.5 75
  • 80 of my students work as welders and are
    employed before graduating

  • 95 of my students leave with two certifications
    in hand
  • Students graduate as certified welders
  • Iron Workers, Steamfitters, Plumbers Unions and
    Fabrication Companies employ students with
    compatible certifications
  • On average, one student every 5 years will attend
    college to get their Welding Engineering Degree
  • Currently, one student every year attending
    college

Welding Laboratory
  • 15 individual welding booths
  • 15 G.T.A.W./S.M.A.W. machines (3 major
    manufacturers)
  • 12 G.M.A.W./F.C.A.W. machines (3 major
    manufacturers)
  • 6 new wire feeders (portable)
  • 4 diesel portable welding machines
  • 7 oxy fuel large medium carts with torch sets
  • Horizontal band saw, iron worker, 2 drill
    presses, belt sander, pedestal grinder
  • Portable power tools 2 port-a-band saws, 2
    sawalls, metal saw, nibblers, 7 grinders
  • Now 15 -7 hand grinders, 40-4½ hand grinders,
    3 metal chop saws

Training Barriers
  • 2,000 materials and instruction for 2008-2009
    school year
  • Same money for 2009-2010
  • A/B days difficult for student to maintain
    continuity
  • Many students have academic difficulties
  • Trade Committees rarely come to recruit students
    (mostly unions)
  • Student accomplishments are not publicized

  • Join the American Welding Society
  • Offers many A.W.S. certification tests
  • Award patches to students who complete each
    certification test
  • Attend A.W.S. Welding Show, section meetings and
    field trips
  • Earn good quality jackets with Sponsors
    endorsements
  • This year got 12 free jackets

  • Barbeque grill cook off when all grills are
    fabricated
  • Integrate other classes into the promotion of
    welding
  • Produce a recruiting D.V.D., The Next Generation
    of Welders
  • Welding camp for 8th graders
  • Use seniors to help train

  • Take students to job sites
