5S.W.A.M.P. Mission
- The mission of SWAMP is to establish teams of
local volunteers medical and public health
professionals who can contribute their skills and
expertise throughout the year as well as during
times of community need.
6Program Objectives
- Draw Americans into volunteer service
- Create a framework to match volunteers skills
with community needs - Train a cadre of health professionals to respond
better to the needs of the community, enhancing
their skills and teaching them their role in
support of local emergency responders - Provide reserve capacity at the community level
to respond to health needs for emergencies and/or
locally identified public health needs and
priorities

8S.W.A.M.P. Volunteers can
- Assist with emergency response teams
- Provide care to victims with non-serious injuries
- Provide additional manpower/staffing to increase
the effectiveness of physicians, nurses, and
other health professionals in a major crisis. - Access the Strategic National Stockpile (Pharmacy
Only) - Provide assistance in medical needs shelter

10S.W.A.M.P. Volunteers
- Malpractice insurance and liability coverage is
in place upon activation of the S.W.A.M.P. - Volunteers are covered under liability and
malpractice covered under the Alabama Department
of Public Health
11S.W.A.M.P. Volunteer Training
- All licensed medical volunteers must complete
AIMS or HICS NIMS 100, 200, and 700 and
clinical triage - All volunteers have one year to complete the
training - The training is provided by the University of
South Alabama sponsored by the Alabama
Department of Public Health

hours each - CME and CEUs will be provided
