collaboratively to build and sustain
infrastructures to increase diversity at the
graduate level and beyond makes resources
available to significantly increase the number of
underrepresented minority students receiving
doctoral degrees and entering the professoriate

Leads the National Science Foundations efforts
to attract the most talented students into
graduate studies, and to support them while they
are prepared to be the leaders in the science and
engineering careers of the future.
In the past year, DGE supported 4500 U.S.
citizens and permanent residents in graduate
programs through highly successful programs GRF,
GK-12 and IGERT
4GK-12 Program
Enables graduate students in STEM disciplines to
acquire skills that will broadly prepare them for
professional and scientific careers. Through
interactions with teachers in K-12 schools,
graduate students improve their communication and
teaching skills while enriching instruction in
K-12 schools.
5IGERT Program
developed to meet the challenges of educating
U.S. Ph.D. scientists and engineers by
establishing innovative new models for
integrating research, education and training in
interdisciplinary areas (new and emerging)
- Skills for tackling complex interdisciplinary
research problems

of Masters granting institutions ? if an MSI - 2. Emphasis on the establishment of connections
to AGEP/LSAMP/CREST/etc programs on campus - 3. New PI orientation meeting at NSF to reiterate
the importance of - - Broadening participation efforts
- - Evaluation of recruitment/retention efforts
