  • Having a budget is very important. You will need
to work out a budget in this class. You will be
given a job with a salary, a place to live with a
rent to pay, and other expenses. You will learn
to keep a checkbook and pay out your expenses and
    keep track of your income.

Think about how you will pay for your car!

7. Look at More Car Costs
  • Think about your budget and all of the expenses
you have each month. You want a cool car. But you
also will need a place to live and food to eat
and lights and heat! Use the following websites
to find some cars that you might be able to buy
    with your income.
  • Use the classified ads to look up the cost of 5
cars that you might like to buy and write down
how how much each car costs! Use this website to
also find out how much an apartment will cost you
each month! Tell meis the apartment more than
you thought each month? Is it cheaper to live
with your parents or to live in an apartment?!

8. Standards Benchmarks
  • Math/Strand III/Content Standard 1/ Elementary
  • Overview We live in a sea of information, in
order not to drown in the data that inundate our
lives every day, we must be able to process and
transform data into useful knowledge. The ability
to interpret data and to make predictions and
decisions based on data is an essential basic
    skill for every individual.
  • Benchmark 1
  • Collect and explore data through counting,
    measuring and conducting surveys and
    experimenting.
  • Language Arts/ Strand IV/Content Standard 8
  • Overview Identify mechanics that strengthen
understanding of and provide clear understanding
    of spoken and written texts.
  • Benchmark 1
  • Identify and use mechanics that enhance and
    clarify understanding. Examples include using
    conventional punctuation, capitalization, and
spelling, as well as approximations of
conventional spelling and restating key ideas in
    oral messages.
  • Technology Benchmark
  • 5-1. Students will use technology to locate,
evaluate and collect information from a variety
    of sources.
  • 6-2. Students will employ technology in the
development of strategies for solving problems in
    the real world.

9. Teacher Tips
  • Have cards prepared from your own grocery
receipts and utility bills. Hand them to the
students when they come in on random days, as
well as hand them cards with bonus money for
    positive behavior rewards.
  • Have the student chart copied and ready for them
    before class time.
  • Save newspapers to use for students who cant use
the computer. (Who havent turned in their
    computer use forms)
  • This project was set us as an independent project
for non-readers. The Moneyopolis game is the
differentiation mode I have selected for my
students because of their low reading skills. You
may wish to add other tasks for your students to
    do to add enrichment activities.
