- What about the other 80 ?
- Some find work, some take upgrading classes, some
drift around for a few years before making a
decision - Many return later on to take trades or technical
training
10TRANSITION TO TRADES
- A great opportunity for students who have
completed grade 10 to obtain a work experience in
a Apprenticeable Trade. - By completing a work experience it could
encourage students to either take Tech. Ed
courses in the future or enroll in our ACE-IT
programs or obtain an SSA. - Students will get credit for WEX12A
- The Work Experience will take place in July
11WORK EXPERIENCE
- Research has shown students that focus their
studies in specific career areas are more engaged
in school, do much better academically, are more
likely to graduate. - Students should sign up for one of the 8 focus
areas to obtain a on the job work experience. - Students are not required to take 5 specific
courses prior to going out on Work Experience as
in the past. - Work Experience can be paid or unpaid.
- Work Experience will also satisfy the requirement
for Grad Transitions. - Also available is a online version of the
pre-employment course

- Terry Fox mornings only both semesters
- Centennial second semester
- Prerequisites AT 11and AT 12, English 12 or
Communications 12, Math 11 Essentials (B) or
completion of Principles or Applications of Math
11, L drivers license, and working knowledge of
computers. - Dual Credit

15BAKING AND PASTRY
- Entry Level Training with specialization in
advanced baking. - Triple Credit-VCC Certification, 32 high school
credits and Level 1 credit with 900 hours toward
WBT. - VCC downtown campus from Feb 2 to Dec. 11, Mon.
to Thursday 100 to 715pm. - Completion of grade 10 and Foodsafe Level 1.
16CARPENTRY
- Location Terry Fox Secondary
- 4 classes in the second semester plus 4 weeks at
Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Cloverdale - Successfully completed grade 11 but consideration
will be given to mature grade 10 students.
17Carpentry
- Students will receive 20 high school credits plus
Work experience or SSA credit. - Students on successful completion will have
obtained Level 1.
18CONSTRUCTION ELECTRICIAN
- Located at Charles Best
- Program begins in February and ends in January
- Mornings only, in the afternoon students can
return to their home school or stay at Charles
Best - Mandatory Work Experience or SSA in the summer
- Prerequisites Principles of Math 11, Physics 11
and English 11 - 20 credits plus Work Experience or SSA

19CHEF TRAINING
- Located at Riverside, Centennial and Gleneagle
- Completion of Planning 10
- Students will normally take 4 courses in the
second semester plus additional courses in the

20HAIRDRESSING
- Taught at Gleneagle
- 7 courses plus English 12 or Communications 12
- 10 month program from Sept. to June

21JOINERY(CABINET MAKING)

- 3 courses plus 15 weeks at BCIT starting on June

experience - Prerequisites Wood 11 (B), Math 11 Essentials

15. No classes during Spring Break and during

- Dual credit
- Choice of Fitness 11 and Fitness 12 or PE 11 and
PE 12 will grant you credit for SPSC 1103 - Must have minimum of C in either PE 12 or
Fitness 12.

- With the completion of BCA 11 students can write
an assessment test in June to obtain course
exemption - Must score at least 70 on assessment test.
37HOSPITALITY AND RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT (HORM)
- 2 year diploma with transfer into a degree
program at several universities. - Ace-it Level 1 Cook Training credit for Horm
1135, BCA 11 credit for Horm 1120, preferential
admission for Tourism 11 and Tourism and SSA
students in the Cook Program. - English 12 (C), and Principles of Math 11.
