2 Agenda
- Available cloning methods
- Differences between cloning methods
- Cloning using Rapid Clone method
- Cloning options available for each method
- Cloning methods best for your environment
3How can I clone an Oracle Applications 11i System?
- What is cloning?
- Available methods
- Cloning using AD clone utility (adclone.pl)
- Cloning using AutoConfig on Windows
- Cloning using Rapid Clone (only available on Unix
platforms)
4What are differences between available cloning
methods?
- Cloning using adclone.pl method
- Applicable for all 11i releases up to 11.5.5 that
are not AutoConfig enabled - Cloning using AutoConfig
- Applicable for all AutoConfig-enabled 11i systems
on the Windows platform - Releases 11.5.7 and 11.5.8 are AutoConfig enabled
out of the box - Cloning using Rapid Clone
- Applicable for all 11i systems that have migrated
to AutoConfig and enabled Rapid Clone
5What are differences between available cloning
methods?
- adclone.pl method requires that you run Rapid
Install and apply RDBMS and Technology Stack
patches to target system - AutoConfig requires that you run 11.5.7 Rapid
Install to build installer inventory if you plan
to patch target RDBMS home - Rapid Clone does not require that you run Rapid
Install nor build OUI inventory files
6Cloning Oracle Applications using Rapid Clone
method
- Target system the newly created system
- Source system the system to be cloned
- Not yet supported on Windows platform
- Could clone OS binary compatible systems (HP UX
11 and HP UX 11i Solaris 2.6 and Solaris 8) - Pre-release 11.5.8 systems can be configured to
use Rapid Clone - If you have more than 4 mount points for the
datafies, apply patch 2741120
7Cloning Oracle Applications using Rapid Clone
method
- Standard Rapid Clone Method (single-node to
single-node) - Prepare the source system for Rapid Clone
- Stage the source system
- Copy the source system
- Configure the target system
- Perform post-cloning tasks
8Prepare the Source System for Rapid Clone
- Migrate to AutoConfig (Note 165195.1)
- Apply prerequisite patches
- Apply the Context Creation and Editor patch
2716534 - Apply patch 2614231 (OUI 2.1.0.17.0 used to
register RDBMS and iAS homes) - Apply AutoConfig consolidated update patch
2716712 - Upgrade to JDK 1.3.1
- Generate applications context file (.xml)
using Context Creation Wizard
9Prepare the Source System for Rapid Clone
- Update applications context file
- Run AutoConfig to generate configuration files
for the source system) - Create the RDBMS home Rapid Clone files
- Run MakeAppsUtil to generate appsutil.zip files
that contain Rapid Clone files - Copy the Rapid Clone files to RDBMS home
- Update the Rapid Clone files on RDBMS home with
the new files included in AutoConfig Consolidated
Update patch - Modify user configuration (for Unix users 11.5.1)
10Stage the Source System
- Create the stage location (20 MB)
- Stage the source system RDBMS home
- Ran adclone.sh script with modestage and
component dbTechStack - Stage the source system database
- Ran adclone.sh script with modestage and
component database - Stage the Applications technology stack
- Ran adclone.sh script with modestage and
component atTechStack - Stage the APPL_TOP
- Ran adclone.sh script with modestage and
component appltop - Note The source system doesnt need to be shut
down for the stage phase
11Copy the Source System
- Create users for the target system
- Create the stage location
- Shutdown source system services
- Copy the source system clone stage directories
- Copy the source system APPL_TOP files
- Copy the source system COMMON_TOP files (java,
html and util directories) - Copy the source system Applications technology
stack (8.0.6 home and iAS home) - Copy the source system RDBMS home
- Copy the source system database
12Configure the Target System
- Create the target system Applications Context
file (use Context Creation Wizard) - Configure the target system RDBMS home
- Ran adclone.sh script with modeapply and
component dbTechStack - Configure the target system database
- Start the target system database and Net8
listener - Configure the target system Applications
technology stack - Configure the target system APPL_TOP
13Perform post-cloning tasks
- Sign the Java archive files (forcey)
- Relink the f60webmx executable on HP
- Relink Applications executables programs
(recommended) - Update Notifications Mailer configuration files
- Reconfigure Portal (Note 146469.1)
- Start Applications processes
- Test the target system
- Check client tier connectivity
- Verify that you can start and use target system
14Perform post-cloning tasks
- Other post-cloning considerations
- Update GSM profile options
- Update other profile options (non-site level
options) - Update patch history database (see Migrating
Patch History Info in AD Procedures guide) - Update tables with target system environment
information - Additional product specific steps (for payroll)
- Remove source system related files and
directories from the target system
15Other cloning options
- Recloning
- Cloning a multi-node system to a multi-node
system - Required that number of nodes and server
components installed on each node are the same - Clone database node first
- Cloning a single-node system to a multi-node
system - available - Cloning a multi-node system to a single-node
system not yet available
16Which cloning method is best for your environment?
- The best method depends on
- Version of applications
- Prior to version 11.5.7
- Version 11.5.7
- Version 11.5.8
- Platform
- Unix (adclone.pl and Rapid Clone)
- Windows (adclone.pl and AutoConfig)
- Version of Database
- 8i
- 9i
17What cloning options are available for each
method?
18What cloning options are available for each
method?
- Cloning Oracle 9i database
- Available methods
- AutoConfig
- Rapid Clone
- Cloning multi-node system to a single-node system
is currently not available - Cloning single-node system to multi-node system
is only supported for Rapid Clone method
