History
  • The Sequoias used to be everywhere around the
    world until the Ice Ages came along and these
    trees disappeared from most of the world. Now
    you can only find them in California.

  • Up to 35 ft. in diameter
  • Trees have survived 3,000 years, some even longer
  • The tallest Sequoia is 311 ft. tall
  • Grows between 1-2 feet tall each year, until its
    to 200-300 ft. tall

Lifecycle
  • Starts as a cone
  • Cones release pollen
  • Seed hits forest floor
  • Seed grows
  • In several hundred years the sapling becomes full
    grown
  • Then trunk grows outward
  • Cones growing on tree will start process again

  • You can see it in the Sequoia National Park in
    central California
  • Oldest tree alive

  • It was estimated in the early 1900s to weigh
    about 2500 metric tons.
