  • In 2004, 16,346 students took the test in 2004.
    Of that number, 3,961 (24.23) of the students
    tested, scored LEVEL 5 in BOTH Reading for
    Information and Applied Mathematics. In 2005,
    17, 873 took the exam, and 4,442 scored Level 5
    or above. an Increase of 527 and representing
    25 of those taking the test.

  • Kent ISD recommended the Guaranteed Diploma
  • Guarantee is this Kent ISD will guarantee the
    basic math and reading skills of our districts
    graduates

    this different?
  • Our dialogue led to the use of WorkKeys as a
    common definition of basic skills
  • We test 12,000 9th 10th graders a year
  • Each must receive a level 4 on the reading and
    math tests to receive a guaranteed diploma

  • This has created a sea change in attitude about
    education in the business community
  • Business leaders are going around the state
    saying others need to do what were doing
  • Weve been written into a 15 million workforce
    reinvestment grant because of our innovation

    for kids
  • Weve learned we need to revamp our middle and
    high school curriculum to meet the needs of our
    lowest performers
  • About 25-30 percent of students score below level
    4 and in the current curriculum, theres no way
    to catch up
  • Now, were working on that, and the CRC
