The great wall of China
The Great Wall of China was built over 2,000
years ago, by Qin Shi Huangdi, the first emperor
of China during the Qin (Ch'in) Dynasty (221 B.C
- 206 B.C.). In Chinese the wall is called
"Wan-Li Qang-Qeng" which means 5,000-Li Long Wall
(10,000 Li about 5,000 km). The Great Wall is
one of the largest building construction projects
ever completed. It stretches across the mountains
of northern China.

The Chinese year is based on the cycles of the
moon.   This is called a lunar schedule.  A
complete cycle of  the Chinese calendar takes 60
years.  The Chinese calendar dates back to  2600
B.C.  It is the oldest known calendar

In Beijing, on October 1, 1949, Mao Zedong
proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic
of China. The new government assumed control of a
people exhausted by two generations of war and
social conflict, and an economy ravaged by high
inflation and disrupted transportation links. A
new political and economic order modeled on the
Soviet example was quickly installed. In the

It is inevitable that with such a long history
China should have developed several unique and
traditional sports and pastimes. While some are
practiced widely by the Han majority as well as
the minority groups who make up these groups and
reflect their own cultures. As the country is so
large and the various minorities are separated by
vast distances it is not surprising that they
have their own special ways in which to express
their vigor and enthusiasm.

Me and where I live
I live in East Dereham, a peaceful town in the
centre of Norfolk 17 miles away from the nearest
city. Dereham is a normal size town and has a
