TOP 68
  • Up to now the NAMUR does not prefer any of the
three systems TOP68, SMEK or Variopin
  • NAMUR would like to have a new design, based on
the advantages of all the systems
  • A working goup is founded to define and update
the requirements of a universal pH connecting
    system

TOP 68 - The Mettler Toledo Variopin
  • Knick (Namur) Variopin connector is definitely a
    faulty design
  • BASF, Infraserv and Bayer feel confidence about
    Knick statements
  • Mettler will be thrown out of the team if they
are not contributing in a positive way
  • The Variopin connector has a big technical
    problem
  • The metallic shielding in the electrode head may
    have contact to the liquid
  • In this case the measurement can be
    unpredictably wrong
  • If you calibrate the electrode in the lab all
    seems o.k.

Metallic shielding with liquid contact leads
to unpredictable errors !!!

TOP 68 - Further Steps of working group
  • 18.04.2001 Definition of the Detailed
    Requirements Specification
  • 19.04.2001 - 25.05.2001 Tests of the three
candidates vs. the new spec. via an
    independent organisation (DMT) Inspection of
the design by an independent mechanical
    engineer
  • 31.05.2001 Final release of the new connector
    system specification Definition of time
    schedule and further steps

7
TOP 68 - Conclusion
  • The present battlefield of the connector system
is the market, not the working group
  • The winner will be the connector which is the
    best established in the market

Sell the connector wherever possible and as often
as possible mainly to pH-competitors
