Previous Years
  • During our first 8 years we were invited to visit
our mentor schools on a once a year basis.
  • For this reason I solicited multiple school from
    different demographic areas
  • Our year consisted of 3-4 trips annually
  • Most of the learning was during our follow-up
    discussions at Amity

8
Previous Years Transportation Goals
  • With the absence of formal funding for our new
partnership, we have had to consider alternatives
    to school bus transportation.
  • Dr. Goldstone offered to allow us monthly visits
but he was unable to secure bus funding. My subs
were covered but not our transportation.
  • The students stepped up to the plate and drove to
the field trip following me perfectly. Our
caravan traveled together on the way there and
    back.
  • Our hope is to secure some kind of partial
funding for bus transportation for the beginning
of the school year when less students drive their
    own cars.

9
This Years Transportation
  • Unlike those previous years on the previous
slides, this year there was funding for our
partnership and we were able to get a bus monthly
  • Even though cars may have been more fun and
comfortable, I would always worry every time our
    caravan got separated
  • The bus made it a lot less stressful for me, as I
knew where everyone was at all times and that
    everyone was safe
  • We thank Dr. Goldstone for getting us funding for
the bus this year. It is greatly appreciated

My Thoughts.
  • Through Teen Teaching I have learned a lot. Like
how to connect with the kids and motivate them to
want to learn. It is an amazing feeling when you
realize you have made a difference in a child's
life. What I enjoyed the most was watching the
kids get excited about learning some thing new. I
will never forget this amazing experience.

My Thoughts.
  • Teen Teaching has taught me many things this
year. I have learned how to better cooperate
with young children. I better understand how
these kids communicate with each other and their
teachers. Most of all, I have gotten a strong
sense of what its like to be a teacher. Ive
learned what a huge responsibility it is and how
rewarding being a teacher can be because of the
children. Teen teaching has been an enlightening
experience and something I will continue to learn
    from.Nick Abriola

My Thoughts.
  • Teen teaching is a great program. Being able to
interact with younger children and to be given
the opportunity to learn from qualified teachers
is a wonderful experience that I cherish. Every
visit to John S. Martinez, I come back with
newfound knowledge or a memory that I will
remember forever. This year I was in a bilingual
class that spoke both Spanish and English, which
was interesting and amazing to be a part of. Next
year, I know that there is a lot in store for me
and I cannot wait! . Melody Hahm

My Thoughts
  •   This experience was better than i could have
hoped for. The teachers and students were so
welcoming and made my time there even more
enjoyable. I learned so much within the short
time given to us and spending time in a real
classroom situation made it  clear that this
profession is what i want to do with my
    lifeJessica Hallock

My Thoughts
  • I had a lot of fun this year in teen teaching. I
got to meet a lot of great kids and I learned a
lot from my teacher at John S. Martinez School in
New Haven. I really enjoyed getting to know all
the kids in my class, and having them get to know
me as well. This whole experience has definitely
opened my eyes to a greater world of teaching,
and has made me want to become a teacher even
    more!

My Thoughts.
  • I have really enjoyed participating in the
Teen-Teaching program this year.  Every month I
looked forward to our trip to John S. Martinez
School.  Teen-Teaching has opened my eyes to the
ups and downs of teaching, and it has been a
    memorable and gratifying experienceJulia Kernan

My Thoughts.
  • The teen teaching program was one of the best
things I have ever done. It was great to come in
and see how excited the kids were to see me and I
could not help but be full of joy and excitement
too. I learned so much from my teacher and I know
that I will keep what I learned with me to help
me in college and beyond. .Stefan Keller

My Thoughts
  • Through Teen Teaching, I have been able to
learn about what it takes to be an effective
teacher. I had a wonderful experience working
with the students in my class and watching them
grow throughout the year. Teen Teaching gave me
the opportunity to work with students on an
individual basis as well as to learn skills that
will prove to be invaluable as I work towards
becoming a teacher. Overall, my experience in the
classroom was both beneficial and enjoyable.

My Thoughts..
  • Amity Teen Teaching has been a very rewarding
experience. For the past two years I have been
able to watch classes firsthand. My favorite part
was the ability to be active within the class.
Whether it was reading to the children or
teaching them how to spell, I became an important
person in their lives. As I move on I will
remember this experience and use the knowledge I
have gained to help me in the future.

My Thoughts..
  • My experience in teen teaching has helped me
develop and mature. Over time Ive grown to love
and understand the children at John S. Martinez
High School. My patience and acceptance of all
children has grown as they asked for comfort. The
way that one is disciplined affects his/her
actions. This was shown as I watched children get
reprimanded. I learned to be stern while having
good intentions. From my first year at teen
    teaching I have become a better person.Courtney

My Thoughts.
  • I have been a part of the Teen Teaching Club
since I was in tenth grade. Even then I knew I
wanted to be a teacher, so I stayed committed to
Teen Teaching. This club has given me the
opportunity to observe and assist in the 1st and
3rd grade classrooms in an urban setting. It has
given me the diversity as well as the preparation
I need to be a successful teacher. I very much
enjoyed the Teen Teaching experience and I would
recommend it to anyone interested in a teaching
    career. ..Becca Benichak

My Thoughts.
  • This was my first year of teen teaching. In the
beginning I didnt know what to expect. I didnt
know how the kids were going to act or what would
happen. Every time I walked into the room in the
morning to when I left in the afternoon, it was
enjoyable. I had so much fun working with the
kids and helping them with whatever they needed
help with. The teacher, Miss. Bryan, was very
nice and I was very lucky to have her as a mentor
teacher. All I can say was that this year of Teen
teaching was so much fun and I had a blast. I
learned a lot from making lesson plans to working
with the students. This is something I will
definitely do next year Alyssa Cretella

My thoughts
  • Teaching is a really rewarding field, just seeing
the happy faces of the students really brightens
my day. I have had so much fun going on field
trips to Jose S Martinez and actually planning
lessons that I could one day teach. And these
past 2 years have been very informative and
enriching. I want to thank Mrs. Malloy for making
all of this possible.  Good luck to everyone next
    year and have fun!............Miriam Iftikar

My Thoughts..
  • This was a great exprience for me. I was able to
get a glimpse of what my days might be like when
I become a teacher. The program reassured me that
I really want to become an elementary school
teacher. I mostly enjoyed being able to interact
with the kids. They were a great group and I
    really enjoyed my time.

My Thoughts..
  • My experience in Teen Teaching has been really
fun. I have learned so much from Mr. Puerta and
Mrs. Mitchell. I appreciate being able to be
apart of this club. This has been such a
rewarding experience, and I plan to do it again,
and hopefully I will get another great teacher
like Mr. Puerta and Mrs. Mitchell. Thank you to
    everyone.

My Thoughts.
  • My experience with Teen Teaching over the past
two years has been very rewarding. I enjoy seeing
the kids' enthusiasm when I am in the classroom.
The teachers I have worked with have all been
supportive and encouraging. It has been a great
opportunity that I was able to learn a lot from.

My Thoughts
  • I have been in Amity Teen Teaching for three
years, and each year is a new adventure. In my
freshman year, ATT only went on a three field
trips to local elementary schools. Within the
next two years, the club completely transformed
and went on at least one field trip per month to
private New Haven Elementary schools. It was
great working with the different types of kids
and being able to see how they change from month
to month. Some of the lessons learned from first
hand experience goes beyond what you can read
from any book. -- Michelle McDermott

48
My Thoughts..
  • The Amity Teen Teaching experience has been
great. Ive learned a lot of different teaching
techniques that might come in handy in the
future. My teacher, Ms. Goubourn was so kind and
allowed me to take control of her class. I was
able to experience what teachers go through
everyday and I must say, its not easy. The
children were amazing. They were very helpful to
my experience because sometimes, they too would
point out things that I might have missed or just
done wrong. The hardest part about Teen Teaching
was getting the courage to go up to the class and
speak to the students but the children made it
easier and more exciting. Amity Teen Teaching has
been really helpful and has given me a new
    perspective of the education career.
