HEALTH COMMITTEE) REGULATIONS 1996
12PART III - FUCTIONS OF SAFETY AND HEALTH COMMITTEE
- assist in development of safety and health rules
and safe systems of work - review the effectiveness of safety and health
programs - carry out studies on the trends of accident,
near-miss accident, dangerous occurrence,
occupational poisoning or occupational disease
which occurs at the place of work, and shall
report to the employer of any unsafe or unhealthy
condition or practices at the place of work
together with recommendations for corrective
actions and - review the safety and health policies at the
place of work and make recommendations to the
employer for any revision of such policies.
13FUCTIONS OF SAFETY AND HEALTH COMMITTEE
- inspect the place of work at least once in every
three months - Investigate accidents
MEETINGS OF SAFETY AND HEALTH COMMITTEE
- Frequency of meetings of committee - once in
three months.

Officer) Regulation 1997
15Description of Industries
- Any building operation where the total contract
price of the project exceeds RM 20 million - Any work of engineering construction where the
total contract price of the project exceeds RM 20
million - Any ship building employing at the peak of the
work more than 100 employees - Any gas processing activity or petrochemical
industries employing more than 100 employees - Any chemical and allied industries employing more
than 100 employees - Any boiler and pressure vessel manufacturing
activity employing more than 100 employees - Any metal industry where there is canning or
stamping or blanking or shearing or bending
operations and employing more than 100 employees - Any wood working industry where there is cutting
or sawing or planning or molding or sanding or
peeling or any combination of the above, and
employing more than 100 employees - Any cement manufacturing activity employing 100
employees - Any other manufacturing activity other than the
manufacturing activity specified in
subparagraphs, employing more than 500 employees.
16Safety Health Officer (SHO) Qualification
- pass SPM or above.
- Pass DOSH-approved Safety Health Officer course
- Three (3) years experience in Occupational Safety
Health - Or
- has been working in the area of occupational
safety and health at least for a period of ten
years
17PART V - DUTIES OF SAFETY AND HEALTH OFFICERS
- to advise the employer or any person in charge of
a place of work on the measures to be taken in
the interests of the safety and health of the
persons employed in the place of work - to inspect the place of work to determine whether
any machinery, plant, equipment, substance,
appliances or process or any description of
manual labour used in the place of work, is of
such nature liable to cause bodily injury to any
person working in the place of work - to investigate any accident, near-miss accident,
dangerous occurrence, occupational poisoning or
occupational disease which has happened in the
place of work

- to assist the employer or the safety and health
committee, in organizing and implementing
occupational safety and health programme at the
place of work - to become secretary to the safety and health
committee - to assist the safety and health committee in any
inspection of the place of work - to collect, analyze and maintain statistics on
any accident, dangerous occurrence, occupational
poisoning and occupational disease which have
occurred at the place of work - to assist any officer in carrying made by the
employer or any person in charge of the place of
work on any matters pertaining to safety and
health of the place of work.
