Introduction

• The new standards are coming? 2009-10 school
  year
  
• Vickie Purvis Satellite teacher for Pioneer
  Career and Technology Center in Shelby, Ohio. I
  teach 7th and 8th grades at Crestline Local
  Schools in Crawford County. I do not have a
  classroom.

Relationships Talents and Skills Inquiry Based
Units

• There are five lessons for this unit.
• The one I have worked the most with is Aliens and
  Assets- Zapped But Not Trapped
  
• This is a career-based lesson where students will
  need to know and understand their personal
  assets.

Continuation

• The students produce an introduction page,
  persuasive essay, a personal letter written from
  anothers perspective, a collage, an excel graph
  comparing their assets to the career clusters and
  an excel graph with 3 goals. A separate Resume
  is produced.
• So here is what I did

Friends

• This lesson has the students producing a
  Newspaper article on Friends and a Rap.
  
• I gave my students the option of choosing the
  article or rap
  
• They used the Internet for their resources except
  for the book chapters I provided.

Conflict

• Which Way to Stop the Drama?
• Assuming the role of a bully or victim and create
  an adventure story that leaves the reader with
  choices or options of how to resolve the conflict

• Look Whos Talking
• You are a staff member at the community
  recreation center
  
• Exploring cultures-lifestyles and communication

Real Life

• The lessons were constructed to give more purpose
  in the student learning.
  
• Inquiry-based means that the students find the
  information. The teacher is the facilitator.
  
• Assessing at the end is more rubric and
  reflection.

What This Means

• My students added a lot of suggestions. These
  are lessons for you to use part or all of and
  change for your situation.
  
• The students have more of a stake in their
  learning.

The Next Units Healthy Lifestyles and Ensuring
Food Safety

• This unit was built around the Understanding by
  Design Method.
  
• They are still Inquiry-based.
• They include a lot more activities to choose
  from.

  skills should be available for you to use.

• The Healthy lifestyles and ensuring food safety
  unit will be reviewed and approved at state level
  before being posted.
