3MAIL
- Allows PRIVATE communication between students and
instructors within a course - Similar to standard email programs
- Send and receive messages
- Reply and forward messages
- Include attachments
- Print, search, organize and compile messages
4MAIL INTERFACE
- Default folders include
- Inbox
- Sent Mail
- Drafts
- Deleted Mail
- Messages are listed on the right side
- Unread messages have closed envelope icon
- Read messages have open envelope icon
5CREATING A MAIL MESSAGE
- Click create message to compose a new email
- Click Browse for Recipients or type in the
users WebCT id if you know it (you will also see
options for sending to multiple recipients) - Complete rest of message as desired
- Add attachment(s) as desired
- Click Send when finished you will
automatically return to the Inbox
6MAIL DISPLAY OPTIONS
- Sort by column name by clicking on the column
label (Subject, Author, Date) - Create printable views from selected messages
by checking the box next to desired messages,
then click Create Printable View - Move and Copy options work in a similar fashion
- Choose number of items displayed on the page by
clicking the Paging Preferences icon

- Enables open (and private) posting of scheduling
information - Provide students with
- Due dates
- Links to external websites and course content
- Info on office hours
- Calendar allows for both Course-related entries
(PUBLIC) and Personal entries (PRIVATE)

- Choose Month, Week or Day view
- Click Add Entry
- Add Entry details
- Choose Personal (private) or Course Entry type
(public) - Click More Options if desired
- Allows for inclusion of weblinks and Recurring
Entries - Click Save

13WHOS ONLINE
- Whos Online is a new feature not previously
available in WebCT CE 4.1. - It is located on the My WebCT page
- It is an instant messaging feature for
synchronous communication between users inside a
WebCT course - Click the checkbox next to a users WebCT id and
click Send Chat Invitation
14INVITING MEMBERS TO CHAT
- Type in a message to include with chat invitation
(optional) - Click Send Invitation
- Wait for user to accept the invitation
- A new chat window will open

- Chat within a course allows real-time
communication between class participants and
instructors - The chat/whiteboard feature allows for sharing of
text, drawings and images - Chat room logs are available for viewing chat
room conversations after completion of a chat
session
16CREATING A CHATROOM
From Course Tools, click Chat then Create Chat
Whiteboard Room Give the room a title and
description Set maximum of users you want in
the room at one time Click SAVE The chat link
should appear (depending on your page layout)

17LINKING TO CHAT ROOMS CHAT LOGS
- Once a room is created, it can be linked
throughout the course from various locations
(learning modules, discussion boards, etc.) - To edit the properties of a chat room, use the
Action Links menu to the right of the chat link - Click Edit Properties you will return to the
same screen you encountered when you created the
room

18FACILITATING CHAT ROOMS
REMINDER JAVA software must be installed in
order for chat to function properly.
Whiteboard tools
Whiteboard window can contain drawings, text,
shapes, lines, etc. added by instructor or
students
Chat window contains text chat between students
and instructor
19FACILITATING CHAT ROOMS
- Chime preferences select sounds or
notifications when participants enter the room - Enable/disable handraising enabling this
feature requires students to raise their hand
to speak. You must call on them before they are
allowed to contribute to the chat.
20CREATING ANNOUNCMENTS
The Announcement tool is gives immediate notice
to your students of a message that needs to be
read.
To add an Announcements click Announcements under
Course Tools
This opens a new window click Create
Announcement

This is where you title and create the
announcement.
Here you decide the recipients of the
announcements.
Here you set the date of delivery. Note once
an announcement has been delivered the
announcement can not be edited

- A sent Announcement can not be edited. To
insure you have the editing opportunity, delay
immediate delivery.
The Pop-up insures the announcement catches the
eye of the recipient.
After the delivery date is set click Send

24SYLLABUS TOOL
Click Syllabus under Course Content
In the new window choose Use File
25UPLOAD SYLLABUS
Click Browse
Which opens the Content Browser and access to
local files or your computers hard drive.
26USE BUILT-IN SYLLABUS
Each item can be added according to the users
needs.
27BUILT-IN SYLLABUS ITEM - REQUIREMENTS
Click Course Requirements to open the Add Course
Requirements window.
28BUILT-IN SYLLABUS ITEM CUSTOM HTML
Custom HTML gives the option of creating items
which are not provided in the pre-existing list.
29BUILT-IN SYLLABUS ITEM - GOALS
Click Goals to create Goals for the Syllabus
This opens a new window where the HTML editor can
be used. Repeat these steps for each Goal to be
added.
30BUILT-IN SYLLABUS ITEM - LESSONS
Click Lesson
Opens the new window where lessons are Titled,
and create Dates, Objectives, Topics, Readings,
and Assignments
31BUILT-IN SYLLABUS ITEM - RESOURCES
Click Resources
This opens a new window where a Heading, Title,
Author, Publisher, Edition/Year, ISBN and Any
other additional information can be added.
32DISCUSSIONS
The Discussions Tool opens a new window which
gives the opportunity to decided what other pages
to place a link to Discussions besides in the
Course Tools Menu.
33DISCUSSIONS TOPICS CATAGORIES
Creating Topics or Categories can only be done in
the Build or Teach application
A Category can hold multiple Topics Topic can
hold multiple messages. Messages can receive
multiple replies.

Click the your Topic to open the create message

Click Create Message to open the new HTML editor.

Edit Properties allows changes to be made to the
Title, Description or other properties.

To read the Discussions messages click the Topic
title
- This opens a new window.
- Click the message to be read
- Notice there are 3 unread replies to the message
40DISCUSSIONS - MESSAGES
Locking Threads prevents replies or forwarding
This is done in Build or Teach tabs only.
This shows all response to the current Message
The Message window allows editing, direct replies
to the message, and forwarding to an email
address.

This is the Threaded Discussions. Opens all
replies to a Message. Here Replies can be made or
the message forwarded to an email address
