HABITAT
  • The island fox is located id six different
islands. The six islands are call San Miguel,
Santa Cruz, Santa Catalina, an Nicolas, an
Clement, Santa Roseau's. Fish and Wildlife

CHARACTERISTICS
  • The Island Fox isnt endangered. The
Island Fox is the largest of the channel
Islands native mammals. A descendent of the
mainland gray fox. The island fox evolved into
unique species over 10,000 years ago. The island
fox has similar markings to its ancestor, but is
    one-third smaller.Enviromental and ecological
factors such as drought or food scarcity may have
contributed to the natural selection for a
smaller size. At 12 to 13 inches in height and 4
to 5 pounds. The island fox is about the size of
a house cat. Island foxes have gray coloring on
the back, rust coloring on the sides, and white
underneath. The face has distinctive black, white
    ,and rufous-colored patterns.

PREDATOR/PREY
  • The island fox on San Clement island has
been identified as a predator of the severely
endangered race of the loggerhead shrike. On two
occasions foxes have been recorded entering a
shrike nest and nestlings. Island foxes hunts
dead mice to feed there babies. from this study
it was determined that predation by golden eagles
was a significant factor in the decline of the
    foxes.

POEM
  • Island foxes are small foxes. When the U.S
Fish and Wildlife Service came and got they were
living in cages that look like small little
boxes. They like to eat dead mice, but they are
nice. They are very light. If a gust of wind came
through it will blow it out of sight. One day I
will like to see a island fox or maybe not.
