Status of National Conservation Practice Standards

• Second year of second five-year cycle
• 19 standards in process of being updated
• 7 to be released with NHCP Notice 136

• 21 standards just completed Federal Register
  review
• Three Agronomy practices
• Three Ag Waste practices
• Five Forestry practices
• Eight Wildlife/Biology practices

Interim Practice Standards

• National list has been updated
• Much smaller list now
• States must receive approval from NCPSS Chair to
  add an interim practice standard

Documentation

• Important to document source of technology in a
  practice standard
• Research
• Field demonstration
• Professional experience/judgment

National Reference Table

• Developed with ITC
• Practice name, practice code, narrative
• When changes are made, current list will be
  archived
• When a new interim practice standard is approved,
  that interim code will be available for one year
  after that, wont be able to access it

Training

• NTSC staffs
• Strongly recommend that all State technical
  specialists receive training
• 2-2.5 days
• One day of instruction, one day of applying what
  was learned
