I believe that this immersion has made me a more
open-minded, accepting person. Many of the
experiences allowed me to experiment with new,
unfamiliar activities and allowed me to step
out of my comfort zone. -Suneal Vishnupad

  • I have found that I am more open to different
religious beliefs. Since we were able to visit
the Hindu Temple, Temple Beth-Abraham, the
Islamic Center, and the Unitarian Church, I feel
like I have a greater appreciation for other
    peoples beliefs.

House of Bread!
21
  • All of the places of worship that we experienced
as a group made me think a little differently
about the world around me. One of my favorite
things about the whole Stepping Out immersion was
that I was constantly doing things that I had
never experienced or even thought of trying
before. Things like flying, To-Shin Do, House of
Bread, and the places of worship were experiences
that were completely unique to my life.
  • -Bob Dyer

22
  • The experience that really changed the way I
look at the world was the House of Bread. This
was my first time volunteering at a place serving
the poor. The word poor in this experience
really took on a new meaning. I used to think
that the poor were all just people who made bad
choices and didnt try to fix them, but through
this experience I found that they all had their
    story to tell.

  • The experiences I have had during immersion,
especially Hocking Hills, have altered the way
that I think about myself. Mainly in that I seem
to have found my niche in the MVS community where
it is not required that I conform to anything,
and because of that I feel that I act as if I
truly am me, instead of putting up a façade in
    order to fit in.

  • I found out that the world has such great things
for me and I cant just sit there and think they
are going to come to me I have to go out and
tackle them and make the best out of my life. I
feel very differently about my classmates. I
didnt know most of them very well and to learn
about their lives and what they can accomplish
and do was just amazing to me.

  • I became better friends with people in my cabin
and I guess I dont really feel like the new kid
as much anymore. Thats a good feeling.

  • Before we went on the hikes, I was not exited at
all. I did not like the outdoors, and I had no
appreciation for natures beauty. However, when
we were hiking, everything was so beautiful, and
I took many amazing pictures. Hiking caused me
to see the world around me in a different way (as
beautiful). I was surprised that I could go from
someone who hated hiking to someone who truly
    enjoys it.

  • I feel differently about my character. The
reason I do is that I found traits within that I
didnt know I had before this experience. I
realized that there was a very calm side to me.
Hocking Hills helped me feel very confident that
I can deal with what life throws at me.

  • My favorite thing about immersion this year was
the trip to the zoo. Ive never been to the zoo
in my life. I had a blast. I felt like a four
year old again looking at the animals It felt
like being on the animal planet channel or
something getting to pet snakes and stuff.

  • Also at Hocking Hills I realized how I can be
when it came to cooking and people doing their
dishes and putting their stuff away. Since Ive
been home I am trying really hard to put my
dishes in the dishwasher and not leave my stuff
lying around because I get how irritating that
    is.
