Malaga in history

• Malaga has one of the oldest historical records
  of Spanish cities. It goes back to megalitic
  times with the Caves of Menga

• We have been colonized by phoenicians, who met an
  already strong civilization called Turdetans. We
  can see Turdetans coins and Phoenician remains

• The Phoenicians, who called their city Malaka,
  were quickly followed by the Greeks. Some say
  that the first Walls of our castle are
  Phoenicians, others Greek.

• Soon the greatest empire of all times emerged
  Rome. The Romans left a lot of remains of their
  civilization in Malaga, for instance, the
  recently rebuilt theatre.

• The Romans gave way to the Gothic tribes, who
  left little trail and were soon replaced by the
  Arabs. They left important traces of their past,
  such as these monuments.

• The Christians finally reconquered our city and
  left the final traces in such monuments as our
  peculiar cathedral. Why is it peculiar?
