What is a Planet?
  • A planet is a body of considerable mass that
    orbits a star.
  • There are nine planets in our solar system. They
include Mars, Earth, Mercury, Venus, Saturn,
    Neptune, Uranus Jupiter, and Pluto.

3
Where are the Planets Located?
  • In order from closest to the sun are Mercury,
Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus,
    Neptune, and Pluto.

4
How to Remember The Planet Order..
  • An easy way to remember the location of the
planets, in order from closest to the sun is by
    using this simple trick.
  • Use the first letter of each word in this
statement to represent the planet. My Very
Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas.
  • Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,
    Uranus, Neptune, Pluto.

5
Mercury
  •  Mercury, the planet nearest the Sun, is the
second smallest planet in the solar system.
  • This tiny planet does not have any rings or
    moons.
  • This planet is covered in craters.

6
Venus
  • Venus does not have any moons or rings.
  • The atmosphere of Venus is very hot and thick.
  • The average temperature is 855 F.

7
Earth
  •  Earth, our home planet, is a beautiful blue and
white ball when seen from space. The third planet
from the Sun, it is the largest of the inner
    planets.
  • Earth is the only planet known to support life
and to have liquid water at the surface.

8
Mars
  • Mars, Earth's outer neighbor, is the fourth
    planet from the Sun.
  • Mars' bright appearance and reddish color stand
    out in the night sky.
  • Mars has huge volcanoes and valleys and lots of
    dust storms.

9
Jupiter
  • Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar
    system.
  • Jupiter, has very strong wind storms.
  • Jupiter looks very colorful because it is made up
    colorful molecules such as sulfur.

10
Saturn
  • Saturn, the sixth planet from the Sun, has the
most spectacular set of rings in the solar
    system.
  • This planet also has 31 moons.

11
Uranus
  • Uranus has a faint ring system and 27 known
    moons.
  • Uranus is the most strange planet of all because
the daytime on Uranus lasts for the whole summer.

12
Neptune
  • Neptune, which is usually the eighth planet from
the Sun,and it is a very cold place.
  • Occasionally, the ninth planet Pluto crosses
Neptune's orbit and becomes the "eight planet."

13
Pluto
  •  Pluto is usually the outermost planet in the
    solar system.
  • It is the only planet that has not been visited
    by a spacecraft from Earth.
