15Tips for Searching
- Keywords are like the main idea we are searching
for. Today, our keywords are fruit and
recipe. - Look for the keywords fruit and recipes when
you are searching different websites. This will
help you eliminate the information that is
unnecessary for this project. - Try to find a recipe that you could easily make
by yourself or with little help from an adult.
You will always need permission from an adult to
make a recipe, but try to find one that can be
made without using knives, a stove, or an oven.
16I have my recipe. Now what?
- It is very important to give credit to the
website where you found your recipe. After all,
you did not create this recipe yourself! You are
simply borrowing the recipe. When you borrow
information like this, it is essential to tell
where you found it. This will also help others
quickly find the same information. - Once you have your recipe, read on to see how to
give credit, or CITE, this website.
17Bibliography
- Here is a general format for citing websites
- Authors Last Name, Authors First Name. Title
of the Article. Title of the Website. Title of
the organization running the website. The date
you found information from the website. Address of the website. - As an example, this is the correct citation for
the Food Pyramid website we used today - MyPyramid.gov. United States Department of
Agriculture. November 15, 2005.
. - This example does not have an authors name or an
article title, because the website did not have
an author, and we used the entire site, not just
one article.
18It is your turn!
- Your first citation had been done for you!
- Now it is your turn to cite the website you used
to find your fruit recipe. -
- Follow the format given to do this,
- and write all of your citations on the back of
your recipe index card. - You used at least two websites today, so you need
at least two citations!
19Hooray for Fruit!
- Congratulations!
- You just searched the internet all by yourself!
Now that you know how to safely use the
Yahooligans! search engine, you can find out more
information about almost anything! You should be
proud!
