- Large food pyramid cut-out
- Plastic/fake foods
- Cut out shapes of food from each food group
- Large paper chart
- Markers or Crayons
- Coloring sheets (different foods, food pyramid,
healthy/unhealthy food chart, and blank paper) - Computer w/ internet access

- Day One
- Introduce the 6 food groups and foods from each
- Explanation of what a pyramid is and how the Food
Pyramid Works - As a class, students will place clip art in the
correct group on a large pyramid - (Beginning Assessment)-Students will draw food in
their own Food Pyramid worksheet

8Day Two
- Discussion on why eating healthy is important
(rely heavily on student input) - Decide which food groups are healthy or unhealthy
- Students will make their own list of foods that
are healthy and unhealthy and list them on a
class chart - As a class, we will decide which group each food
on the list goes in and if it really is healthy
or not
9Day Three
- Students will prepare their own healthy meal of
foods they like - Using clipart, cut-outs, or hand drawings
- Will present in front of the class
10Day Four
- Review day of everything learned food groups,
healthy and unhealthy foods, reasons to eat
healthy - The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle will
be read - Decide if the foods used in the book are healthy
or not and which food groups they go in - Time permitting students could visit the Dole 5
a Day website
11Day Five Final Assessment
- Students will use a Kidspiration template to
place healthy foods on a dinner plate - Homework Assignment students will cut out
pictures and label Healthy or Unhealthy or
place them in the correct place of the food
pyramid
12Require Learner Participation
- Use of many visual aides
- Class participation
- Coloring sheets, cutting and pasting, computer
use - Fun, somewhat challenging activities
- Possible snacks each day ?
