Things to do wrong

• Dress inappropriately.
• Your machine is not ready.
• Your slides are not ready.
• Good ideas
• Use PowerPoint
• Have backups on overhead transparencies
• Write on the whiteboard (bad idea!)

• Dont introduce yourself.
• Have a meaningless title slide.
• No outline. Disorganized outline.
• Good idea
• Tell them what you will say.
• Say it.
• Tell them what you said.
• Fail to state the problem clearly and loudly.

• Slides are unreadable or distracting
• Sloppy.
• Too busy.
• Spelling, grammar errors.
• Gratuitous animation.
• Bullet items revealed too few at a time.

• Deliver badly
• Read the slide verbatim.
• Talk too fast.
• Umm... Oh sh...
• Overly informal language.
• Use jargon.
• (Technical talk is good, jargon is bad.)

• Tables are (in general) bad, graphs are good.
• Good idea include labels on graphs.
• Good idea for each graph, first say
• What the axes are.
• What this is a graph of.
