Eighth Grade Washington DC Trip May 6-9, 2008

  • Departure
  • Must be at Rochambeau at 500 AM.
  • Buses will be departing at 530 AM.
  • Have orange tags filled out with personal
    information and attached to your bags.
  • Can only have two bags one carry on (ex.
    backpack) and one suitcase for clothes.
  • You will not be able to access the suitcase
    until we get to the hotel.

  • While on the Bus
  • Chaperones will provide movies. (PG or G only)
  • I Pods, Walkmans, and PSPs are OK. Portable DVD
    players and boom boxes are not.
  • You can eat and drink, but you must keep the bus
    clean. Avoid junk food.
  • Listen to chaperones and behave appropriately.
  • Be aware of emergency evacuation procedures.

  • Dress / Packing
  • Dress comfortably. (sneakers, etc) There will be
    a lot of walking.
  • Layer your clothes. (sweat shirts, etc) The
    weather can change rapidly in Washington DC.
  • Our school dress code applies.
  • Have rain gear in case of bad weather.
  • Label all personal items to avoid theft or loss.
  • Do not bring expensive items such as jewelry,
    camera equipment, etc.
  • You do not need large amounts of money. You are
    responsible for two meals and possibly minor
    souvenirs.
  • Pack bottles of water in your suitcase.
  • Dont bring junk food. Decide as a room who will
    bring what.
  • All backpacks must remain on the bus due to
    security reasons.

  • Cell Phones
  • You can bring a cell phone. It is for emergency
    purposes and to contact your parents at night
    ONLY.
  • Cell phones must remain off during the day.
  • You are not permitted to call friends with your
    cell phone at night.
  • You may call your parents on the way home from
    the bus to let them know what time we will be
    back.

Medicine / Nurse
  • The nurses name is Mrs. Sapio-Longo .
  • We will provide her room number for you.
  • Avoid overeating.

  • Docent Speeches
  • Must be completed correctly before trip.
  • Oral presentation will be graded by your
    chaperone.
  • Teach

  • Room Behavior
  • Unless it is an emergency, you may not leave
    your room for any reason.
  • Noise levels must be kept to a minimum.
  • Rooms must be cleaned up every morning.
  • No use of cell phones (except to call parents)
    or room phones.
  • All school rules apply.
  • There will be security guards who patrol the
    hallways at night.
  • Two people in each room will have a room key.
    Take care of the key.

Emergency Situations
  • You will be provided with a neck wallet that
    contains emergency contact numbers. You will not
    be allowed out of the hotel or off the bus
    without this wallet.
  • You may use your cell phone to call emergency
    contact numbers.
  • Do not talk to strangers. If you get separated
    from your group and do not have a phone, try to
    find a police officer or ask to use a museum
    phone.

Overall Behavioral Expectations
  • All school rules apply.
  • Listen to chaperones at all times.
  • While walking around Washington DC, never go
    anywhere on your own. Select a buddy from your
    walking group that you must be with at all times.
  • Be responsible and make smart choices.
  • If there are any serious rules infractions,
    there is a strong possibility that you will be
    sent home.
