Title: My First Day of School
1My First Day of School By Sara Dina
2I lay in bed and stare out the window. I am
attempting to get a good nights rest, after all,
tomorrow is a big day for me, but I just cant
seem to sleep. Like the night before Christmas,
I am too excited to sleep before my first day of
kindergarten!
3Restless, I just lay in bed thinking about the
day that lies ahead. It looks like the sun is
just about to rise, I guess that means I will
have to get up soon. I know it is a very
exciting day, but I cant help but feel a little
bit nervous about my first day of school!
4My alarm clock should be going off any second now

6Well, I guess its time to get out of bed now!
Noelle, my identical twin sister, and I need to
rise and shine for our special day!
Noelle, I think I am still sleepy. What about
you? Noelle? Noelle? Are you up?
7As I try to wake Noelle up, the thought of school
pops back into my mind. How am I ever going to
survive not being in the same class as Noelle.
We do everything together like play outside,
dance, eat, sing, fight . . . except wake up at
the same time!
Get up Noelle! Its time to get out of bed!
No Sara! I want to go back to sleep.
8Well, I think this is going to take awhile. I
guess I will have to head downstairs and eat
breakfast by myself. I cant believe Noelle isnt
out of bed. Doesnt she realize how big of a deal
today is. We are going to be separated from now
on, that is, be in different classrooms for our
entire kindergarten career!
9What should I have for breakfast?
10A nice big bowl of cereal sounds perfect!
11A half hour later, Noelle is out of bed and
finally ready for school. Wearing our schoolbags
packed with brand new school supplies, we walk
hand-in-hand down Bradley Court to wait for the
bus.
12While Noelle talks about how exited she is to
meet new people, I cannot help but worry about
being apart from her. Who will I play with at
recess? Who will I sit with on the rug? Who
will I share my snack with? My nerves slowly
take over my stomach, and I am getting nervous
just thinking about a new teacher and new
classmates.

Sara, I cant wait to meet my teacher and all of
the kids in my class
Uh . . . I guess.
13Bus 63 arrives and picks us up for school. The
bus is loud with rowdy students eager to share
their summer experiences. I stare out the window
and try not to let my first-day-of-school nerves
get any worse!

The bus finally arrives at school. All the kids
on the bus are trying to get off as quickly as
they can so that they can get some recess time in
before school starts.
16As Noelle and I got off the bus, we hear someone
say that all kindergarteners need to line up. So
together we walk over and stand in line.
Kindergarteners line up over here
17We wait in line until all of the kindergarteners
have arrived and then walk into our new school.
We walk down the halls of the unfamiliar building
and are led to our new classrooms.

Oh look Sara, we are right next door!
I am happy you are so close!
We walk down the hall until we reach our
classrooms. I am in room 1, and Noelle,
thankfully, is in room 2. I am so excited that
she will be right next door to me. I am slowly
started to realize that trying something by
myself might be okay after all.

Welcome! My name is Mrs. Hughes
Hi, my name is Sara.
As I walked into the room, a jolly woman named
Mrs. Hughes, introduced herself as my new
teacher. She is all smiles and I am put at ease
immediately.

Welcome Class! My name is Mrs. Hughes.
Hi, Im Jenny. Can I sit by you?
Yes!!
Mrs. Hughes then shows me wear to hang up my bag
and asks me to find a seat at one of the tables.
As I sit down, a girl named Jenny sits next to
me.
21Jenny and I become instant friends! We talk
while waiting for the other kids to arrive, sit
next to each other on the carpet, and play
together during free-time. I am so happy that I
have made a new friend. I dont know why I was
worried about being apart from Noelle. I have a
wonderful teacher, I already made a friend, and
no matter what, Noelle is only a classroom away!
