The ILCTA_MDB Horizontal Test Stand (HTS) is a
facility for testing dressed superconducting RF
cavities at 1.8 K with high power pulsed RF. A
cavitys performance is characterized and
validated in order to qualify it for assembly
into a cryomodule.
Cavity C22 fully dressed and ready to install
into the test cryostat to begin commissioning of
the HTS
High power RF system 300 kW klystron, charging
supply, modulator, and wave guide
Test cryostat and cryogenic distribution system
for cooling dressed cavities down to 1.8 K
(superfluid helium)
The Horizontal Test Stand is currently completing
commissioning with cavity C22, a 1.3 GHz
TESLA- style cavity from DESY.
After commissioning, the HTS will be prepped for
testing a series of 3.9 GHz cavities built by
FNAL for an upgrade to DESYs free electron laser
facility FLASH, followed by testing of 1.3 GHz
cavities for the first US-built
ILC-style cryomodules
C22s fast piezo tuner system. High power pulsed
RF can detune the cavity via Lorentz forces fast
tuner systems are used to compensate for this
effect
C22 and its input coupler installed in the test
cryostat and connected to the cryo system
RD at HTS Testing the performance of geophones
as mechanical vibration instrumentation in a cold
environment
Conditioning the C22 input coupler with high
power RF of increasing pulse length at HTS
Cooldown of C22 to 1.8 K (helium vapor pressure
of 12 Torr --- black trace)
