• The Cold War was caused by
• Splitting of Berlin
• Cuban Missile Crisis
• Bay of Pigs Invasion
• Possession of nuclear warfare
• Growth of technology
• Atom Bombs
• Hydrogen Bombs
• Tension between Castro/Khrushchev, and Kennedy

Splitting of Berlin

• The Splitting of Berlin occurred in July of 1948
• This event was do to a division of Germany and
  Berlin was inside of Germany therefore, it was
  split as well between East and West Berlin
• This cut off the U.S.s ability to access Berlin

Cuban Missile Crisis

• The Cuban Missile Crisis began October 15th,
  1962, and ended October 28th, 1962.
• This event was caused by the leaders of major
  world powers threatening each other of their
  nuclear missiles

The Bay of Pigs Invasion

• This was an event that happened because Fidel
  Castro began his communist reign on Cuba.
• Cuban exiles began training by the U.S. military
  for an invasion of the southern beach of Cuba

The Berlin Wall is Built

• This wall was built in order to separate East
  Berlin from West Berlin
• The wall was created in 1961 and destroyed in 1989

Berlin Crisis

• This event marked the climax of the dispute
  between West Germany and Berlin
• It was caused by Russia cutting off all land
  importation

Soviet Control of Eastern Europe

• The Soviets began taking control of Eastern
  Europe because most East Europes leaders had
  been forced to leave their places of residence or
  their position in office

Berlin Airlift

• The idea of this airlift was to send 2.3 million
  tons of food and supplies to the people of
  Western Berlin
• The U.S. and Britain had done this because
  Western Berlin was being controlled by Russia,
  not allowing them resources
• This happened between June, 1948 and May of 1949

Soviet Union-Destroyed

• The Soviet Union was destroyed by their own
  political situations.
• The Soviets were so disconnected from the rest of
  the world, which dug them a huge economic hole.
• The Soviet Union was destroyed during 1989-1991.
• Many Soviet followers are still around today.

Kennedy Assassinated

• John F. Kennedy was assassinated on Friday,
  November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas.
• Shot by Lee Harvey Oswald.
• There are countless theories on why Kennedy was
  assassinated. Some include
• Rearranging CIA
• Stopping Vietnam
• Mafia

Developement of Nuclear Weapons

• The hydrogen bomb was created during the 1950s.
• This bomb is more powerful then the earlier built
  atomic bomb.
• The atomic bomb was the first nuclear weapon that
  the U.S. used.

  accomplish mass destruction.
• Hydrogen Bomb Tested in 52 by US and was
  discovered to be 100 times stronger than the
  atomic bomb.
• Bay of Pigs An area in Southern Cuba where the
  invasion planned by the US was set.

• The term given to the build up of nuclear weapons
  in the world.
• The nuclear arms race became a very competitive
  between the US and the Soviet Union during the
  Cold War era.

• The Cold War was ended by the help of the
  destruction of the Soviet Union in Russia.
• The war lasted a long time, almost ranging over
  50 years long.
