Do what you do best..
Focus on your Content strategy Create,
Aggregate and Capitalize on your digital and
interactive Content
Our business
is to ensure you spend more time on your content

    content delivery
  • Emergence of new content exchange and consumption
    patterns
  • Explosion of media, entertainment, gaming and
    other industries

9
Your challenges to Deliver Content
  • You need the technical means to deliver a new
user experience without any technical or cost
    barriers
  • A global platform capable of delivering a vast
array of content like live broadcasts,
    high-definition video, gaming, software updates,

10
Emerging Service Provider Business Models for CDN
  • Applications in media, web properties, software,
gaming and others yet to be defined
  • New opportunities for retail service providers to
    bundle content with connectivity
  • ROI models are changing in the short and long
    term

11
Underlying DriverComplexity of Video
Applications will continue to increase
  • SITUATION
  • Application Complexity Will Increase
  • Video is the limiting factor because of its
    intensity
  • Larger file sizes and more interactive is
    inevitable
  • Legacy content delivery solutions are suboptimal
    and general purpose

12
Tata Communications CDN Distributed Origin
Network
  • A Better Design BUILT FOR VIDEO
  • Replicated Origins
  • Fault tolerance
  • Guaranteed QoS
  • Less chatter with BitCast
  • Anycast- Network addressing and routing scheme
  • Data-Multicast-Replication Technology
  • Stream Tracking-Tracks and rebuilds connections
  • Concentrated distributed nodes at major peering
    points
  • End-to-end control over platform
  • Carrier friendly

13
Tata Comms Vision for Global CDNsHigh
performance delivery enabled by Tata
Communications Content Delivery Network CDN)
Unique Architecture Global Tier1 IP Network
Distributed Origin architecture
  • Our CDN is based on a distributed origin
architecture which differs from most CDNs, which
are based on Cached Edge networks.
  • Unlike competitors who rely on multiple IP
Transit providers, our CDN is built upon a wholly
owned, global Tier 1 IP network for world-class
    resiliency and performance.
  • This design takes advantage of the substantial
transit peering capability of todays large
Tier 1 networks, moving the content from a fewer
high capacity origin servers clustered regionally
to the end-user providing a performance
    advantage.
  • The fact that every node within a regional
cluster is a mirror of the other mean that all
the content is always available on each node.
This offers an excellent level of redundancy
    while totally eliminating cache misses.

14
Limitations on Traditional CDN Model Caching
Proxy
Solution Limitations
Operational Limitations
  • Thousands of servers required for adequate
    coverage
  • Complex Routing and Management
  • High management, networking, and Co-location
    costs
  • Edge networks are difficult to upgrade
  • Long start up time due to multi-stage DNS
    lookup and proxy
  • Cache means not 100 content availability
  • - Cache misses Limited and fixed cache
    capacity
  • - Performance degradation for large files
    and increasing content
  • Inconsistent QOS
  • Scalability issues
  • Highly susceptible to denial of service attacks
    (DDoS)

15
Direct Path Routing vs Proxy Cache
  • Users request goes through local ISP directly
    to the CDN Distributed Origin
  • File is retrieved and sent through local ISP to
    User

16
LiveBroadcast
  • Whether it's breaking news, sports events,
    concerts, conferences, or live television,
broadcast it LIVE over the internet.
  • The first carrier-grade high quality, flash-based
streaming service for broadcasting live content
    over the Internet
  • Flash-based streaming service designed
specifically to address the needs of delivering
live video broadcasts online by minimizing
latency and packet loss to create a superior
    experience.
  • Set-up is simple and there's no expensive
hardware. Content loads quickly, users can visit
any point in the streamed broadcast, the stream
is optimized for each users connection.
  • No client download required.
