sister, Europa, he was taken by Zeus who was
disguised in the form of a bull.

  • The bull took Europa to the land above
Peloponnesus and was never seen again by her
brothers or her family. While the brothers were
on their journey, each gave up looking for her
    and founded a new kingdom.

More on Cadmus Founder of Thebes
  • During Cadmus' search he came ashore on
Calliste, also known as Crete, and Thera, where
he left enough settlers to form a new kingdom
under Membliarus' leadership. After Cadmus' short
stop on Crete he journeyed further where he saw
his mother for the first time in a long while.
Camdus also met and married his wife, Hermonia at
    this island.

More on Cadmus Founder of Thebes
  • Once again Cadmus went to Delphi in search of
his sister in hopes of finding information on
her. Instead, he was told that his destiny was to
found a new kingdom. On this land he claimed a
dragon lived that was owned by Ares. The dragon
was guarding a spring and would let anyone cross
or take water from the spring.

Cadmus Founder of Thebes
This water killed some of Cadmus' men. He then
realized that the water was important to the
growth of the city, so he attacked and killed the
dragon. However, because the dragon belonged to
Ares, Cadmus was forced to serve Ares for eight
years.
14
Cadmus Founder of Thebes
  • Using the Dragon's teeth, Cadmus sowed the land
he owned. Armed men called, Sparti, rose from the
ground and in the confusion of Cadmus throwing
rocks at them, they attacked each other in which
only five survived and eventually allied with
    Cadmus.

15
Antigone
  • Antigone is daughter of Oedipus and Oedipus'
    mother,Jocasta. Oedipus blinded himself and
traveled around the countryside until his death
with Antigone, after becoming an outcast by his
    own country men.

16
Antigone
  • When Antigone returned to Thebes, and heard of
the War of Seven Against Thebes she found out
that her two brothers, Eteocles and Polynices,
were on opposing sides. The two brothers killed
each other in front of the gates of Thebes.
Eteocles was given a proper burial, but Polynices
brought foreign men into the country to fight the
war and was forbidden to have a proper burial.

17
Antigone
  • Antigone went against her uncle's wishes and
performed funeral rites for Polynices. Therefore,
Creon condemned her to be buried alive for
disregarding orders. She instead hanged herself
and her fiance ,Haemon, who was Creon's son,
    killed himself over her corpse.
