6Sketch Mapping stages
- Locate Goodwood Estate and Racetrack to the North
of Chichester - Shade the following landscape areas
- Sussex Wealden Greensands (yellow)
- Chalk uplands and valleys (greens and purple)
- Draw on the route of the South Downs Way
- On your transparent overlay annotate and locate
the following issues - Urban sprawl/housing pressure (red arrows?)
- Honeypot locations
- Possible congestion
- Footpath erosion
- Village change
- Damage by agriculture to landscapes
- Route of new A27 link
- Sensitive ecosystems
- Homework - add and annotate additional issues and
features onto your overlayPlusget hold of
reading on Housing Pressure in the Southeast -
check government plans!
7Analysis Techniques
- You can use the following techniques in two ways
- 1) To analyse data in your exam - include the
technique in answers - 2) To show awareness of how a technique can be
used to analyse information - by referring to the
technique in your answers - Types of technique relevant here
- Critical Path Analysis CPA - e.g. to ID best
location for new housing developments or route of
A27 - essentially a flowcharting technique to
show the sequence of developments and select most
relevant (pp33-5) - Sieve mapping - to examine threats to specific
locations and habitats (pp30-32) - Impact Analysis - simple version of CBA -
economic, environmental, social (pp29-30) - CBA - requires monetary data - hard to find
(pp27-29) - Conflict matrix - in favour or against the
development (p27) - Bi-polar analysis - to examine whether the
proposed NP will meet its own objectives (pp20-1) - Scaling - in combination with EIA - see handouts
- Tabulation - you have already done this!
(pp12-15) - Make sure you have completed reading on the above
ideas using the revision guides...
8Analysis Techniques
- Tasks to carry out
- 1) Complete a simple conflict matrix for the
different interest groups and organisations shown
in the sources - do not assume though that
certain groups hold set views - go on the
evidence in the sources - 2) Complete the EIA sheet
- 3) Create and complete an impact analysis table -
be careful to refer to the data and evidence for
your decisions - you could do this by including
fig numbers - 4) Create a table to examine whether the proposed
NP will meet its aims (Fig 5.1) - 5) Learn and list the analysis techniques and
explain which could be used in any decision
making aspects of the proposed NP - Carry these out at home to form part of your
final preparation for the exam
