Objectives and purpose

• Overall objective
• to provide support to Malta and to the Malta
  Resources Authority for an effective
  implementation of the EU Water Framework
  Directive (WFD)
• Specific purpose
• Development of a cost effective programme of
  measures for meeting the environmental objectives
  of the WFD for the Maltese Water Catchment
  District

Expected output

• Output 1 - a report presenting the most
  cost-effective programme of measures
• Description of the combinations of measures that
  are cost-effective for reaching the environmental
  objectives of the WFD.
• Assessment of total costs of the programme
  relative share between basic/supplementary
  measures and economic sectors
• Elements for financing of the proposed plan
  (sources of financing, contribution from sectors
  in line with Article 9)
• A qualitative assessment of the overall
  socio-economic impact of the proposed programme
  of measures.
• Output 2 A method for selecting measures
  developed and applied
• Output 3 - Capacity within the Water Resources
  Authority and for other organisations/stakeholders
