18Teaching English is something everyone can do
- English clubs/tutoring as a secondary project
- a great way to create or further relationships
with others in your community - it is a marketable skill
19Integrate teaching as a component of a larger
project
- Our project is a Christmas festival at Castle
Corvinilor in the city of Hunedoara. It is a
family friendly event for social service NGOs
presenting kids games and art crafts for a small
tariff. The castle is offers free admission for
all families. In addition to NGO games and
activities, the Castle has a decorated Christmas
tree forest, music and dance performances, food
and drink vendors on hand and a gingerbread model
of Castel Corvinilor built with PCV support on
display as a media showcase.

- The snow was falling on Christmas Eve and we
heard some bells in the distance..... - Music

- Arts
- coloring, create a Christmas card in English
- Critical thinking
- ask students to order a list of Christmas
presents - ask students to create list of unusual presents
21Take away
- try to understand your students assumptions
about teaching and learning - make sure you elicit then address a specific need
- take charge with youths, collaborate more with
adults - By using the communicative approach, you give
learners the opportunity to use English, and
thats something PCVs can do better than
Romanians.
