2Safe Harbor
This presentation contains forward -looking
statements within the meaning of the "safe
harbor" provisions of the Private Securities
Litigation Reform Act of 1995. These statements
are based on the current expectations or beliefs
of Alvarions management and are subject to a
number of factors and uncertainties that could
cause actual results to differ materially from
those described in the forward -looking
statements. The following factors, among others,
could cause actual results to differ materially
from those described in the forward-looking
statements potential impact on our business of
the spread of the U.S. credit crisis and current
global recession, the failure of the market for
WIMAX products to develop as anticipated
Alvarions inability to capture market share in
the expected growth of the WIMAX market as
anticipated, due to, among other things,
competitive reasons or failure to execute in our
sales, marketing or manufacturing objectives
inability to further identify, develop and
achieve success for new products, services and
technologies increased competition and its
effect on pricing, spending, third-party
relationships and revenues as well as the
inability to establish and maintain relationships
with commerce, advertising, marketing, and
technology providers and other risks detailed
from time to time in the Companys Annual Report
Risk Factors section as well as in other filings
with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
3Agenda
- Railway Company Challenges
- Communication Network
- Answering the Challenge
- Connecting to and from the Train
- The Alvarion Offering
4Industry Overview
5Railway Company Challenges (1)
Safety and security
- Passenger safety
- Stations and facility security
- Track and crossing safety
Maintenance
- Preventative maintenance
- Carriage maintenance
- Connectivity for remote sites (storage, garage)
- Connectivity within large company premises (train
yards, stations)
6Railway Company Challenges (2)
Commercial
- Increase efficiency
- Increase passenger and freight volumes
Passenger experience
- Passenger Information Systems (PIS) on and off
board - Internet access on trains
- E-tickets
- On and off board PA systems
7Railway Communication Network
- All trains have one or more operational
communication systems onboard, to be used when
the train is moving such as - TETRA European standard for digital radio
transmission 300, 400, 800 and 900 MHz - GSMR GSM standard to address the demands of
railway communications (900 MHz) - Satellite connection
- Most of these systems are backed up by a regular
VHF radio. - All communication equipment on trains must comply
with strict standards such as - EN 50121-3-2 EMC immunity for railway rolling
stock apparatus - IEC 61373 - shock and vibration for railway
equipment - UL 2043 - fire and fumes standard
8Railway Communication Network
- Operational communication system requires an
infrastructure alongside the tracks such as
GSMR/TETRA base stations, signaling poles, track
sensors, etc. - Many railway companies have fiber or copper
networks which using tracks as physical
infrastructure - Railway company properties are usually alongside
tracks but out of reach of core network
infrastructure - There is a demand to connect remote company
facilities to center
9The Network Paradox
- Operational network is mission critical,
therefore it is not always - possible to connect additional links at any
required location
Crossing with traffic lights and Fiber entry
point (fiber switch)
Fiber
2 Km
Cameras within 2 km of crossing will be unable to
access core despite being physically on top of
fiber infrastructure
10Addressing the Challenge
Using wireless links to connect remote locations
to nearest available core network entry point
- PtP and PtMP to connect special security cameras
alongside track and in road crossings - PtP and PtMP to connect remote facilities such as
storage and maintenance centers
11The Alvarion Offering

- Versatility
- Superior robustness and security
- Fast deployment
- Superior QoS and VoIP infrastructure
13BreezeNET B
14CCTV in Railway Facilities
- Railway operations typically require large
facilities such as train stations and train or
classification yards - Facilities require high level of security and
safety equipment - CCTV systems are essential and sometimes
mandatory - Wireless solutions can differentiate between
simple and fast implementation to costly or no
implementation
15BreezeACCESS VL SU-Video
16Train Data Upon Arrival in Terminal
- Several computers on board trains auditing
information - Engine performance
- Train speed and acceleration
- Video from internal CCTV system
- On-board ticket purchasing
- Data extracted by IT department is used for
safety, security, maintenance or commercial
analysis - Extraction is usually performed manually, either
by removing the DVR/Black box hard drive or by
connecting physical cable to train
17Wireless Solution
- Wireless connection can improve data extraction
process - Wireless operational communication systems are
not designed to transfer large amounts of data
- Deploying a Wi-Fi network enables downloading
data from trains upon reaching terminal or
maintenance depot
18Data Upload to Trains
Wi-Fi network communicating with train at
terminal can be used to upload data to train at
each station
- Data examples
- Updating passenger information system (PIS) with
location-based advertisements, weather, news or
travel information - Updating automatic PA system onboard train
Sao Paulo Metro PIS updated by Alvarions WiFi
network
