Title: Plants

1
Plants
2
Flowers
Flowers have colour and smell to attract insects.
They make pollen which join to the eggs. Part of
the flower dies and becomes the new fruit with
seeds
3
Leaves
The green chlorophyll in the leaves uses
sunlight to change carbon dioxide gas and water
into food this is called photosynthesis. Leaves
are therefore important for NUTRITION and
EXCRETION.
4
The stem is necessary to HOLD and MOVE the plant
up towards the light. It carries water and
minerals from the roots up to the rest of the
plant.
5
Roots
Roots anchor the plant to the ground so they
dont blow away. They have root hairs to soak in
the water and minerals from the soil. The roots
are therefore necessary for Nutrition
6
Photo Synthesis
Photosynthesis takes place in green leaves
Photosynthesis means using light to make food
Chlorophyll in the green leaves uses light to
change carbon dioxide gas and water into food and
oxygen
7
Parts of a flower
Stigma is sticky to catch pollen
Anther contains pollen
The stamen contain pollen grains
Filament holds the anther up
Style holds the stigma up
The carpel contains the eggs
Ovary contains eggs
8
Growth
Flowers make seeds
Green leaves use light to make food
Roots take in water and minerals from the soil
9
Seeds
Three ways to disperse seeds
By Animals
By Wind
Apple Burdock
Dandelion Sycamore
By EXPLOSION
Peas Laburnum
10
Pollination(part 1)
1) Some flowers are pollinated by insects.
Insects are attract to the flowers by their scent
and their bright coloured petals. They look for
nectar and get covered in pollen and carry it to
the female stigma.
Petals are bright to attract insects
11
Pollination(part 2)
2) Some flowers are pollinated by the wind. The
long male stamens are blown about and the pollen
is carried to the stigma.
