Broadway Musicals
  • Broadway is famous for the wonderful plays and
musicals it produces each year. Our group was
interested in investigating and researching the
popular musicals in the history of Broadway and
discover why some of them were transformed into
    major motion pictures.
  • In addition, we wanted to explain how special
effects can make an audience in the theater truly
experience what is happening in front of them.

3
What is Broadway?
  • Broadway theatre is often considered the highest
professional form of theatre in the United
States. Broadway theatre or Broadway show refers
to a performance (usually a play or musical)
staged in one of the thirty-nine larger
professional theatres located in the New York
City borough of Manhattan, with 500 seats or
more, that often appeal to the mass audience.

Why Are Only Some Plays Turned Into Movies?
  • Why not?
  • Not a popular play
  • Popular culture beyond Broadway is not interested
    in musicals
  • Not all people like a specific play, so it cant
    be turned into a play.
  • Why?
  • Good characters
  • Great Story
  • Exciting music

Why Are Special Effects Essential to a Good Play

  • Special effects are essential to a good play
or movie because they make it more believable and
    realistic.They also add drama and
    emotions.Special effects can sometimes show
things that dont exist and can place you in the
movie or plays settings. Special effects can
finally make the viewer feel like theyre in a
different time period or in a make-believe place!

16
Costumes and Make-up in Movies and Plays
  • Costumes and make-up can change the role,
personality, and age of a character. Different
techniques can make a character look old,
young, and many other things. Make-up artists and
costume designers custom design things for movies
and plays. They help make the characters role and
personality more realistic. So, thats basically
everything you need to know about costumes and
    make-up in movies and plays!

17
How Do Costumes and Make-Up Effect the Viewers
Judgment of a Character?
Costumes and make-up effect the viewers judgment
of a character by changing the personality and
other things about a character. For example, if a
character was wearing a black leather studded
jacket the viewer would think that the character
is a rebel. Costumes and make-up can also effect
the characters age. If a character had wrinkles
and white hair the viewer would think that the
character is old. As you can see, costumes and
make-up play a big part on the viewers judgment
of a character.
