Introduction
  • Have you ever traveled to Africa? Have you ever
    wondered about their traditions and customs? Have
    you ever seen elephants and zebras roaming and
    running about or many different people and tribes
    speaking different languages? Have you ever
    wondered about their clothes or why some people
    live in cities and others live in villages? Well,
    get ready because you are about to explore the
    answers to these interesting questions as you
    explore Africa discovering its amazing way of
    life.

Task
  • Are you ready to allow the internet to take you
    on a journey around Africa? You and a partner are
    going on a scavenger hunt around Africa. You will
    pick a country and explore it and gather pictures
    and visual objects that describe needed
    information to find out how they live such as
    language, culture, traditions, housing, food,
    animals, population, and transportation. Your
    groups information will be gathered together in a
    collage made up of the country you choose. You
    will present this to the class.

Explore Day 1
  • This assignment will take three steps
  • You will use the following steps to complete
    your collage. Below are also websites to help you
    find the needed information please keep in mind
    you are not limited to the information Ive asked
    for you can explore more aspects interesting to
    you. You are however, required to have pictures
    of all information I asked for and also any
    additional information you want to include.
  • Step 1 First you will be assigned to one
    partner. You and your partner will chose a
    country from Africa to explore. Every group will
    have to have a different country so after
    choosing ask teacher for ok before continuing.

  • 2. Step 2 Now that you have chosen a country you
    can explore. Your collage should include the
    following information. I encourage you to use the
    links listed in day one.

  • population
  • Other interesting findings

  • 3. Step 3 Now its time to create your collage
    and present it to the class orally. I encourage
    you all to be creative and have fun. Remember
    collages must include everything from day 2.

Evaluation
  • Both you and your partner will receive the same
    grade for the assignment. If I find the work is
    not divided equally grades will alter based on
    the situation. You will be graded in the
    following areas.
  • 1.Group participation
  • 2.Teamwork
  • 3.Creativity in collage
  • 4.Following directions
  • 5.Presentation
  • The entire assignment is worth 100 points with an
    additional 5points of extra credit. Group
    participation is 10points. Teamwork is 10points.
    Creativity in collage is 20 points. Following
    directions is 50points. Presentation is 10points.
    Including additional information and going beyond
    assignment requirements counts for 5 extra credit
    points.

Conclusion
  • Wow!! Now you have learned a great deal about
    Africa and the countries that make Africa so
    interesting. You have learned about several
    different counties and key aspects about each
    one. How would you like to visit the country you
    explored or maybe a country one of your
    classmates have explored.
  • I always encourage you all to intensify your
    search to more interesting facts about Africa or
    explore another continent and its many counties.

Introduction (Teacher)
  • This assignment started as assignment for my IST
    396 and ended with my personal interest in
    Africa. This assignment should give students both
    a lesson in social studies and art. They will
    learn how to incorporate their thoughts or
    research in a creative manner.
  • This assignment is about Africa. I hope students
    grasp the many diversities in Africa among the
    fifty three countries. I also hope they to share
    a interest in learning how different cultures
    live compared to their own.

Learners (Teacher)
  • This lesson is anchored in third grade social
    studies, however, it also involves art to a
    lesser extent. This lesson can easily be anchored
    for lower as well as upper grades depending on
    the intensification of the assignment. In order
    to complete this assignment successfully students
    will need to obtain at least third grade reading
    skills. Interaction with group members, be able
    to do a oral presentation and obtain computer
    skills.

    points for the assignment is 100 with 5points of
    extra credit
  • I chose to break the grades down in five parts
    totaling 100 points on this assignment with an
    additional 5points of extra credit. Group
    participation is 10points. Teamwork is 10points.
    Creativity in collage is 20 points. Following
    directions is 50points. Presentation is 10points

Conclusions (Teacher)
  • Teachers should utilize this assignment in
    teaching students about different countries and
    continents as a whole. This assignment helps make
    the lesson fun for the student because they get
    to learn hands on and creatively about another
    country other than their own. They get the chance
    to see how different cultures differentiates all
    around the world.
