Title: NDU Software Upgrade

1
NDU Software Upgrade
  • Software upgrades for the NDU are accomplished
    through a network connection.
  • Ideally, the NDU will be on an internal network
within the same domain as a computer used to
access the Vela FTP site for software downloads.

2
NDU Software Upgrade
  • If an internal network is not in use, download
the NDU software to a laptop using an Internet
    connection.
  • After the download, connect the laptop to the NDU
    with a crossover cable.

3
NDU Software Upgrade
  • If connected to the Internet now, click the
picture of the CAT-5 cable to open the Vela FTP
    site.
  • To download the NDU Software, browse to the NDU
Folder and select the compressed .gz file
  • (Use Winzip to extract the file)

4
NDU Software Upgrade
  • Once the NDU software has been downloaded, browse
to your NDU server using the NDU IP address in a
web browser. (The NDU factory default IP address
    is 192.168.0.1).
  • Enter the IP address into the address field of
the web browser and login to the NDU server.

5
Option Keys
  • Before the upgrade, check the server page for the
    options that you may need.
  • The option keys can be copied and pasted into a
text document for later usage. If your current
version is older than 2.4-5, you may need to
obtain a license key from Vela to activate your
    options after the upgrade.

6
System Info
  • Check the System info before and after your
upgrade. When your upgrade is successful, it
    should have similar packages listed.
  • (Streaming audio is not needed).

7
Upgrade Section
  • Select the Server page under the CONFIG TAB. At
the bottom of the server page is a button labeled
Upgrade Server Software. This button is
selected only after the file has been placed in
    the window above it.
  • Use the browse button to select the previously
Winzip extracted .rpm files from the browsers
    laptop or computer folder.
  • (Note Version .2.6-3 and above placed the
software upgrade section on another page found
    under the Config Tab)

8
The files below are only needed if they are not
listed under Important Installed Packages. In
most cases, this procedure is not required.
  • Select and upgrade in the following order
  • ndu_disk_upgrade_A-1.0.i386.rpm (possible
    auto-reboot again)
  • The following upgrade loads as a group. All 4
packages must be installed in sequence before the
    actual upgrade will occur.
  • After browsing to the file select the upgrade
button. The server will report that it has
prepared the file. This is a prompt for you to
browse to the next file and select the upgrade
button again. Repeat this until all four files
    are accepted.
  • openssh-3.1p1-14.i386.rpm
  • openssh-clients-3.1p1-14.i386.rpm
  • openssh-server-3.1p1-14.i386.rpm
  • openssh-askpass-3.1p1-14.i386.rpm
  • openssl-0.9.6b-35.7.i386.rpm (install separately)
  • If the upgrades are successful, the files will
appear under the Important Installed packages.

9
Other upgrade options
  • Return the unit for a factory upgrade.(125.00
    minimum charge).
  • Note If youve upgraded from a version older
than 2.4-5, you may need to obtain a license key
from Vela to activate your options.
  • To request a key, do the following
  • Take a screenshot, or copy and paste the entire
NDU serial ID string into an email.
  • Place in the email the Vela hardware serial
number of the NDU, which is found on the side of
    the unit.
  • Specify the desired options with the above items
    and email to eas_at_vela.com
