6Making Sure You Are On TARGET For Graduation
- If you know you need to make-up any missing
credits, you can do so NOW!! Do NOT wait until
your senior year. - You are eligible to make up credits through the
APEX Credit Recovery Night School Program. You
must meet with your counselor to get a
Co-Enrollment Form. - You are also eligible to enroll in virtual school
classes. To do this, you must be
self-disciplined, motivated and exhibit efficient
time-management skills. - Make an appointment to see your counselor if you
know you are deficient in credits.
7TO BE PROMOTED..
- 11th graders must earn a minimum of 17 credits by
the end of their junior year to be classified as
a senior. - 10th graders must earn a minimum of 11
- credits by the end of their sophomore year to
- be classified as a junior.
- 9th graders must earn a minimum of 5 credits by
the end of their freshman year to be classified
as a sophomore.

9FCAT SCORES
- Students who have not passed the 10th grade FCAT
will have an opportunity to re-take the FCAT in
the Fall, March and again over the summer of
their Junior and Senior year. - If you score below a 300 on the FCAT, your
schedule will include Intensive Reading and/or
Mathematics next year. - Remember, Intensive Reading and/or Mathematics
count as an elective credit! - Also remember to take the SAT/ACT in order to
possibly use this score to replace your FCAT
score after 3 failed attempts of the FCAT.
10VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS
- If you are interested in becoming a shared time
vocational student, make an appointment to see
your counselor for more information. - Remember you must pass the FCAT and have a 2.0
GPA in order to be eligible to attend a
vocational school.
11DUAL ENROLLMENT _at_ BROWARD COLLEGE
- Must have a minimum of a 3.0 unweighted GPA and
11 credits. - Must have a minimum SAT, ACT or CPT score.
- Must make an appointment with your Counselor to
receive an application and further information.
12FOR THE COLLEGE BOUND
- Start writing your resume. Be sure to include
your contact information, educational background
information, work experience, community service
and any extra-curricular activities and awards
held. - Senior year courses are a major consideration for
college admission. Make sure you select the
academic core all four years! - Sign up for the SAT/ACT prior to senior year!!
Refer to page 76 of the NEXT Magazine for the
differences between these two tests.
13Community Colleges
- Remedial classes can be avoided by achieving a
passing score on the SAT or ACT. - Community colleges are ½ the price of most state
universities. Qualified Florida Medallion
candidates can attend a community college with
100 tuition covered!! - The only requirement needed for admission is a
high school diploma (no GPA or foreign language). - You will be able to earn an associates degree
(60 college credits) and then move on to a 4 year
university for a bachelors degree if you choose. - You are able to stay home to save money.
14Four Year Universities
- If you plan on attending a 4 year university
directly after graduation, you are expected to
have completed the following Algebra 1,
Geometry, Algebra 2, 2 years of a Foreign
Language, and maintained a high GPA in addition
to the basic graduation requirements. - If you are planning on applying for early
decision to a university next year, plan on
taking either the SAT or ACT THIS YEAR!!
